Posts-poned...sort of

Maybe it's the weather, the "First Impressions" reviews, or effin' work, but I'm wiped. How wiped am I?
Mrs. Adorkification and I have only seen up to Episode 10 - which I have yet to review.
I know Jean-Luc, I know.
Which is why I'm slowing things down.

I'll still be doing the Monday Movie Reviews,
and the WTF? Fridays,
and I will be finishing the Daredevil series...eventually...
...but I won't be posting daily through the summer.

Easy Conan, it's not the end of the world.

I plan on continuing the "Character Reviews", which seem pretty popular,

aaand I've got a couple other things up my sleeve.
So keep checking back, because aside from Mondays and Fridays, my posts will be sporadic at best.
Have a good summer (or winter for Australian fans) everyone!

First Impressions - Daredevil: "Speak of the Devil"

This is by no means a deeply intense dissection of the episode.
It's just my quick comments and notes after seeing the episode only once (a la AoS).
Spoilers after the jump.

Marvel Casting News (WTF? Friday...5/29/2015)

So there's been some talk...
Names have been going around for playing The Ancient One.
Tilda Swinton among them.
I don't mind casting "against type", and I agree that there should be more characters in movies of this genre that aren't white males. But, looking at the source material, there were not a lot of alternatives at the time. And considering that, so far, Marvel Studios has been casting to type, I'm wondering why the change.
One of the rumors on the mill is that instead of The Ancient One, Swinton may play a future-version of Clea. Since the Infinity Gauntlet will play a big part in the coming years, this isn't outside the realm of possibility.

So why is this a WTF?
Because social media is blurring the lines between Marvel Comics...
...which seems to have gotten much more diverse since 1962,
and Marvel Studios...
...which needs to step up - considering it started back in 1996.

That's like blaming DC comics,
 for cancelling certain shows.

Character Review: Reed Richards - Fantastic Four (2005)

This isn't a movie review.
If you're looking for movie reviews, check out JeremyJahns, schmoesknow or Belated Media, They're good at what they do.
This isn't a comic book review either.
For good reviews of comics, I recommend Comic Vine. They know their stuff.
So, what is this?
It's a review of a given comic book character as she (or he) was portrayed in a specific, alternate medium. It could be a movie, a television show, a cartoon, a radio program, an episode from a television show...whatever.
I wanted to look at that character's unique interpretation, and the factors involved, to see how faithful the depiction was (or wasn't) to the source material.
If you're still interested, read on...

TUESDAY Movie Roundup...5/25/2015

First of all, I hope everyone had a safe and happy Memorial Day Weekend!
(The "weekend" lasted three days, so the latest and greatest numbers weren't tallied until this morning.)
Now onto some stats...

Here in the States, A:AoU made another $21.6 million which brings the Domestic total to just under $411 million. This is roughly two-thirds of the Domestic total for Marvel's The Avengers ($623.35 million).
As for the Foreign total, it's at $770.5 million right now (which is only about $124.7 million away from The Avengers' total Foreign gross).
So what does this all mean?
It means the total gross worldwide for A:AoU stands at a little over $1.181 billion after 34 days in theaters,
while Marvel's The Avengers took in the legendary $1.518 billion after 163 days in theaters.
In other words, to beat its predecessor, Ultron has 129 days to make another $337 million worldwide.

Holy. Hell. Batman.
Good luck dudes. Also - a reminder:
53 days (including today)
and counting...

So, about Sansa...(WTF? Friday...5/22/2015)

Okay...here we go.
There's a lot of controversy over what happened to Sansa.
We have the books, and Mrs. Adorkification has read them all.
Not knowing much about this stuff myself, despite hearing lots of reaction about the recent goings on, I went to the most reliable source I have - my wife - to get her take. (I did the exact same thing back in the days following the Red Wedding for the exact same reason: To get a better understanding about all the reaction I'd been hearing about.)
To be honest, when I first read about what happened, I thought I was reading about Arya.
When I told Mrs. Adorkification that, she made a face, shook her head, and said "Arya'd never be raped."
"Uh...okay.", I replied.
Then she explained to me what happens to Arya throughout the books (which I'm never going to get through) to defend her point. And as far as I'm concerned, she's right. Arya would never be raped.

But back to Sansa.
"Who raped her?", my wife asked, since she knew Sansa was never raped in the books. Well, that required a bit of research, and once I found a source she took over. A few quiet minutes later, she said "Oh. Well, that makes sense."
"Uh...okay?"
At some point on the show, Sansa's character was combined with another young woman from the books - who, at one point, was raped.
Knowing that "show" Sansa is an amalgam of two different women, my wife understood the purpose of the scene in the show.
She knows that the books are too big for everything to get translated to television, just like Watchmen is too big for a single film, and changes were made. To her, the rape in the books (this particular one at least) was an important part of the story, so it made sense here.
Everyone's entitled to decide whether or not to watch a show, and has the right to voice their opinion based on what they see. My big WTF? head-scratching issue here is that this isn't the first time a woman has been raped on this show, and it wasn't the first time a woman was raped in the books. If it was, I'd understand the controversy. This also isn't the first time viewers have been shocked by events on the show. So is this one event that big a surprise? I mean, CNN discussion-level surprise?
I know that at some point, I'll see the episode...
...just as I did "The Rains of Castamere"...
...and come to my own conclusion.
