Monday Movie Roundup...6/29/2015

Hey Pepe, did you hear (Spoiler Alert)..?
There's going to be TWO end-of-the-film teasers.
I know! And Spider-Man will appear!
Well...actually, he'll be referenced.
Well...actually it may just be Peter Parker that's referenced.
Or Mary Jane...
...or Aunt May...
...maybe the Spider-Mobile?

Anyway, that's cool news. Now on to the money...
After 59 days in theaters, A: AoU has made all of $1.371 billion worldwide.
Yeah, it's still short of the $1.518 billion the first one made, but it's interesting to note that the sequel made over $20 million more overseas than its predecessor.
That's good news too.

Meanwhile...
Jurassic World broke the billion mark with $1.084 worldwide, which is more than second place Jurassic Park made ($983.8 million) after only what - 17 days?
So kudos tho them too. Meanwhile...

Did you know that Batkid Begins came out this past weekend?
Me neither.
Apparently the same goes with a lot of other people, since Batkid Begins has only made $23,000 so far. But now that everyone's done the Blockbuster thing, a heart-warming documentary could be just the thing to tide people over -
until the next Blockbuster drops.
Have a good week everybody!

First Impressions - Daredevil: "The Ones We Leave Behind" (WTF? Friday...6/26/2015)

This is by no means a deeply intense dissection of the episode.
It's just my quick comments and notes after seeing the episode only once (a la AoS).
Spoilers after the jump.
(And yes, I'm combining this with a WTF? Friday - it deserves it!)
You've been warned...

Deep Impressions - Game of Thrones: "Winter is Coming" - King's Landing

Needless to say, Spoilers Ahead...just in case I'm not the last person on Earth over twelve who hasn't seen this yet.
I'm reviewing each episode's "happenings" based on location. In other words, each place is getting its own review.

Monday Movie Roundup...6/22/2015

Happy Belated Father's Day Pepe!

A:AoU stayed in the top 10 over the weekend, with another $2.7 million made in the U.S., bringing the worldwide total up to just under $1.37 billion in less than 8 weeks. Just $149 million (or so) to go!

I just thought of something...
Wouldn't it be cool if instead of having the traditional Part II story follow the Part I story, they pull a Tarantino - and have Part I deal with the Earth-bound heroes stuff and end with them all going to space, while Part II deals with the space-bound heroes stuff taking place at the same time as Part I and the third act begins when the Earth-bound heroes arrive in space?
Why yes...yes it would.

As for Jurassic Worldit's made $981.3 million so far worldwide. That's more that Guardians of the Galaxy and The LEGO Movie.
Who knew Chris Pratt had it in him?
I can't wait to see how this goes...

Have a good week everyone!

About holiday cards...(WTF? Fridays...6/19/2015)

Father's Day is this Sunday.
Father's Day is one of those holidays that I call "Selective" - meaning only selected individuals are authorized to give cards/gifts/etc. Mother's Day, and Valentine's Day are others, and I would also include wedding anniversaries.
Let me explain:
I would never give Mrs. Adorkification anything for Mother's Day. At least not directly. Sure, I'd help her do something she'd like done (such as gardening), but I wouldn't get her a card or a gift. She's not my mother. My mother, on the other hand, gets a card/present/phone call/Facebook shout out. Likewise, I would never expect Adorkette to get my wife and I anything as a wedding anniversary present...we didn't marry her, we married each other.
Back to Father's Day...
I got the mail yesterday, and among all the bills and flyers was a card from my mother...wishing me a Happy Father's Day.
That's right - a Father's Day card, from my mother.
W...T...F...?
She's really into holiday cards. We get them for Easter, Christmas, St. Patrick's Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving - Fourth of July even - (along with birthdays of course) which I'm okay with. Heck - I'd even accept a Cinco de Mayo card. But a Father's Day card from my mother just...feels wrong. I know she means well, but I'd rather get a card saying "Happy Free Comic Book Day" or "May the Fourth Be With You".
Now that I think about it, I'm gonna start doing that. Happy Free Comic Book Day Mom!

Monday Movie Roundup...6/15/2015

Morning Pepe...
Well, I'm a little disappointed.
Worldwide, Avengers: Age of Ultron is only at roughly $1.355 billion - which is still about $164 million less that the first Avengers film.
I know Scott, it just doesn't make sense...maybe it's all the other cool movies out this summer:
$511.8 million...
 ...$307.8 million...
... and $322.7 million.
I mean yeah, it's a good summer for movies, but disaster movies? I would have thought that genre was out of style.
Okay, okay...I was wrong.
Really though, $1.3 billion is nothing to sneeze at. So I'll take it.
As for Ant-Man, I'm going to do a little predicting.
In terms of worldwide numbers, I expect this film (out July 17th by the way) to land somewhere between Thor ($449.3 million) and Captain America: The First Avenger ($370.6 million). Again - I'm talking worldwide numbers at the end of the film's run. As much as I love the character, I'd be surprised if this film raked in as much as Jurassic World...opening weekend or final tally. In fact, if Ant-Man breaks $500 million worldwide, I expect Marvel Studios to get rid of their contract with Netflix and give EVERY character their own film starting with Squirrel Girl: Going Nuts
Seriously.
Have a good week everybody!

Comic Alphabet: E

This. Is f**king brilliant.
Enchantress (Marvel), Executioner, Electro, Elongated Man, Eel, Eel II, Electrocutioner, Egghead (Marvel), Egghead (Adam West Batman), Eclipso, Eternity (Marvel)...and that's all I've got.
Hey - it's Sunday, and I just got up...

Deep Impressions - Game of Thrones: "Winter is Coming" - Pentos

A couple of things you should know right off the bat:
1) I bought - and watched - Season 3 first.
Hey...it was on sale at Best Buy!
 2) I only got two-thirds of the way through the first book.
Yeah, well...it affects the same part of my brain that's kept me from getting through Lord of the Rings.
3) We own the books, which Mrs. Adorkification has read from start to finish in a little over three weeks.
In fact this is her second favorite book series, and she grew up reading about Middle-earth, Pern and Darkover (which remains her #1). Therefore -
4) Mrs. Adorkification is the expert here.
5) And now we finally own Season 1.
I've been meaning to do a more involved "Impressions"-style review for a while. I guess I was waiting for the right time and the right stuff, and (apologies to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) this is it.
Needless to say, Spoilers Ahead...just in case I'm not the last person on Earth over twelve who hasn't seen this yet.
I had a heck of a time figuring out how to organize this review because the show (like the books) is so dense. I chose to follow the show's lead, where the BEAUTIFULLY done opening sequence focuses on locations where things in the episode take place - which is f**king brilliant. So I'm reviewing each episode's 'happenings' based on location. In other words, each place will get its own review.
