So there's been some talk...
Names have been going around for playing The Ancient One.
Tilda Swinton among them.
I don't mind casting "against type", and I agree that there should be more characters in movies of this genre that aren't white males. But, looking at the source material, there were not a lot of alternatives at the time. And considering that, so far, Marvel Studios has been casting to type, I'm wondering why the change.
One of the rumors on the mill is that instead of The Ancient One, Swinton may play a future-version of Clea. Since the Infinity Gauntlet will play a big part in the coming years, this isn't outside the realm of possibility.
So why is this a WTF?
Because social media is blurring the lines between Marvel Comics...
...which seems to have gotten much more diverse since 1962,
and Marvel Studios...
...which needs to step up - considering it started back in 1996.
That's like blaming DC comics,
for cancelling certain shows.
