First Impressions - Arrow: "Suicidal Tendencies"

This is by no means a deeply intense dissection of the episode.
It's just my quick comments and notes after seeing the episode only once (a la AoS).

Monday Movie Roundup...3/30/2015

Whaddaya mean the day's over Pepe?

Home, a movie I know nothing about, made $99.6 million worldwide over the weekend - with over $52 million of it coming from the states. It's got Steve Martin, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez and Sheldon in it...so there's that. I give it one more week to beat the break-even point of $135 million.

Get Hard took second place, with $38.4 million worldwide. It only cost $40 million to make, so it shouldn't even need as long as Home to make a profit.
But I haven't the slightest idea why...

Cinderella cost $95 million to make. As of this weekend, it's made over $335.7 million worldwide.
Go Disney...go.

Then there's She's Beautiful When She's Angry -
 - which is not about She-Hulk.
It's a documentary about the modern women's movement (actually about the women of the modern women's movement) from 1966-1971. Their website's here. It includes the trailer, a synopsis of the film, some info about the women portrayed in it and other stuff. Looks interesting,
but Jennifer did make an impact on the woman's movement...just a decade later.
Have a good week everyone!

Hugh Jackman - One last time into the fray...

Jackman's announced (un-officially as of now) that X-Men: Apocalypse will be his last performance as Logan.
Honestly. I gotta press the button.
I'll accept that this will be his last performance shirtless. I'll even accept that this is his last performance as a lead character.
But you can't tell me there isn't the slightest chance that he could return to the role...
...'cause we need this. It has to happen.

WTF? Friday...3/27/2015

So this happened -
W...T...F...?
This is a tweet of Ryan Reynolds tweeted by Ryan Reynolds of Ryan Reynolds in the suit.
As Deadpool.
As cool as this is, I have one thing to say to Mr. Reynolds:
Prove it.
I'm not saying this isn't him...but I how do I know it is him?
He could have tweeted one without the mask right afterwards, is all I'm sayin'.
Aw dammit,
get the butter...

So - Jubilee's in X-Men: Apocalypse?

Jubilation Lee was the last newcomer to the X-Men comic universe before I stopped reading comics.
It had nothing to do with the character, it had to do with things like money, time, work...and other stuff.
I liked how she was introduced, her relationship with Wolverine (which is kinda like a throwback to his relationship with Kitty), and her look (which at one point kinda looked like Marvel's answer to Tim Drake...which they even made fun of). I'm sure she fought Apocalypse at some point in the books, but regardless - she's fighting him in the movie. And it was just announced that she'll be played by this young woman:
Lana Condor.
Just so we're clear, Condor isn't the same actor who played the character in previous films of the X-Men franchise. Kae Wong played her in both X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand
But I'm happy for Ms. Condor, and I'm happy that Jubilee's in the film.
But maybe Singer should have her ditch the raincoat. Just sayin'...

That will happen over the summer after my purchase of the Blu-ray.
I've put my quick comments and notes after seeing the episode only once after the jump.

Effin' internet...

Adorkette is home today due to Intersessions at her school...
...I know, don't ask...
...and she's working on school stuff, until the internet stops working.
When Mrs. Adorkification and I ask what's going on, Adorkette tells us she's downloading something.
What's she downloading? "Something called Adobe Premiere..."
Yeah - that's gonna take awhile...

Monday Movie Roundup...3/23/2015

Hi Pepe! What's new?

Insurgent is new but I thought it was another movie altogether, not Divergent: Part 2.
I don't read much. So what?
But apparently many other people did, because this film made $52.2 million in the U.S., and over $99 million worldwide. That's pretty impressive...
...but I hope it's a better movie.

Speaking of a better movie:
did you know Police guitarist Andy Summers wrote a book? About the Police? No? How about the fact that said book is now a documentary? No? No one else did either, since it's only made $5,656 over the weekend.
Which is a damn disgrace.
I would have expected more hoopla concerning the release of a movie about one of the GREATEST BANDS EVER...but now that it's out, maybe more people will go see it?

What else...
...aw HELL no...
Zombeavers, which is actually a movie, also came out this weekend, making $8,163 in the States.
That's right - a documentary about The Police made LESS than a movie about a bunch of teens...staying in a riverside cabin...fighting off...beavers...that are zombies...
...goddamn Millennials...
Have a good week anyway.

WTF Friday...The Batgirl Edition...3/20/2015

See this?
This is what would have been the cover of Batgirl #41 (June, 2015). Actually, it was one of several planned variant covers to the book until it was pulled after serious internet backlash...
W...T...F...?
I get why people are reacting to this image.
It's damn scary. Just like Joker himself is damn scary. The fact that Joker and Barbara Gordon have history makes it even more scary...but that was before this latest and greatest version of the DC's "The New 52" (which I haven't read an issue of because my calm's been disturbed by DC's continual use of the reset button - another day's rant).
Today's rant is about this image and it's subsequent pulling.
Why was this image hated so much? Because it's Batgirl? Would public reaction have been the same if that was Harley? Vicki Vale? Leslie Thompkins? Catwoman? Ivy? Talia al Ghul? Black Canary?
ROBIN?
I doubt it.
Let's say it's Joker.
What if it was some other bat-baddie, like Mr. Freeze or Black Mask? Deathstroke's pretty damn scary, and let's not forget Ra's al Ghul. If any of those guys were standing there with Barbara, would this cover have caused such controversy?
Again...no.
So what is it? The gun? It's pointing at the ground.
The makeup on her face?
Didn't affect everyone loving Heath Ledger's performance.
Is it the look on Barbara's face?
I'll admit it - she's scared. If I was standing in that spot, I'd be pissing my pants. That look speaks to all of us. That image scares me..
...but it's not the first time that's happened.
So why the backlash?
Because what makes this image soooo damn scary is the fact that it is Barbara...and that there is history between these two characters.
It's about the history.

Funny how no one's complained about the actual plot or premise of the issue. I'm sure Previews mentioned it months ago.
But now I'm wondering -
how many comics might not have the iconic covers they do...if the internet was around at the time.
