Monday Movie Roundup...11/6/2017

Uhh...mornin'?
Okay, okay. Let's get to it:
 How'd it do?
Thor:Ragnarok made just over $427 million worldwide opening weekend, with $121 million of it from the States.
You said it Snowball.

Within the MCU, that puts it solidly at #15.
(Can you believe there's been 17 MCU films since 2008? That's less than 10 years ago!
Anyways...
...at fifteenth place (so far)Thor:Ragnarok has already made more than Captain America:The First Avenger but is about $22 million behind Thor.

Meanwhile...at the Halls of Justice...
T:R is roughly $241 million behind the DCEU's least profitable film: Man of Steel.
(for now, heh...heh...heh...)

Have a good week Pepe!

Monday Movie Roundup...6/5/2017

Is it Monday again Pepe?
 Let's talk!
Wonder Woman made over $223 million worldwide over opening weekend. That's big. About $100.5 million of that came from the States. That's huge.
It's #4 overall within the DCEU, but I think it has the potential to make another $500 million and surpass #3's Man of Steel.
And no. I had no idea that was Princess Buttercup.

Meanwhile, GotGv2 has made over $816.5 million worldwide.
That puts it at #5 in the MCU franchise, and beats the first Guardians by about $40 million.
That's all I've got today. Sorry about the inconsistency in posting, but we're in the middle of selling our house, moving to a smaller apartment, and Adorkette beginning the college application process.
So things are tough.
Have a good week Pepe!

Monday Movie Roundup...5/15/2017

Is it Monday again? Already?
Okay...
GotGv2 made an additional $63 million in the U.S. over the weekend, bringing its total domestic gross to over $246.1 million. Everywhere else, it's brought in more than $384.4 million. This brings the worldwide total past the $ 630.5 million mark.
That puts it ninth within the MCU franchise - more than Iron Man 2, but less than Thor: The Dark World. It has about another $144 million to go to beat the original Guardians.
As for the other franchise...
GotGv2 is a mere $39 million away from their third place finisher - Man of Steel.

Have a good week Pepe!

Monday Movie Roundup...5/8/2017

Mornin' Pepe!
So - How'd it do?
Ir's made over $145 million in the U.S. and another $282.6 million everywhere else, making the opening weekend worldwide total roughly $427.6 million.
You said it Hugh - not too shabby.
That puts GotGv2 in thirteenth place among Marvel Studios films, above The Incredible Hulk and Captain America: The First Avenger.
And just under $22 million behind movie #12.
While I don't see GotGv2 making as much as GotG, I do see it landing somewhere between Doctor Strange and Iron Man 2...which is the low $600 millions. But we'll see.

Have a good week!

Iron Fist: What Happened? (Part 1)

The ethnicity issue is ridiculous. Whitewashing the character? The Danny Rand I remember from the '80's was American. I'm not even sure there was any Asian ancestry in his family tree. He was an outsider, which made his entire time spent at K'un-Lun all the more compelling. A fact missed by all the haters.
 Now onto the show...
The introduction of Danny (and the Meachums) in the first five minutes of the show set the tone - badly. They could have started with Danny and his parents as the plane went down, moved to Danny being found by the monks, and then cut to Danny walking the streets of New York barefoot. They could have started with Ward and Joy waking up in the morning, moved to them going about their daily routines at the office (as well as those of their employees...including the receptionist), and then cut to Danny walking though the door.
Either one would have been more interesting than what we got.

WTF? Friday...4/7/2017

Hey Joe...

...you've seen this. Right?
So I was wondering. What could possibly get these guys together to form a team in the first place? I mean yeah, they're fighting The Hand, but The Hand is a "new" villain to both Luke and Jessica. So why would they get involved? How would they get involved? What do they have in common? What would they be Defending? How are they all connected?
 Here's my brilliant theory:
Claire gets captured by The Hand. Don't know why. Can't even begin to fathom the circumstances. But something happens, and Claire (or something she feels passionate about) needs Defending. She truly is their Coulson.
August 18th can't come soon enough.

Monday Movie Roundup...4/3/2017

Monday already Pepe?
Okay.
Logan made another $6.2 million in the U.S. over this past weekend. That kept it within the 10 top grossing films in the States.
Speaking worldwide, Logan is now at $585.4 million. So how does that rank?
It is the #1 Wolverne-based film of all time. Second place The Wolverine made $414.8 million worldwide.
Logan is also the third grossing film worldwide in the X-Men franchise. Only X-Men: Days of Future Past and Deadpool have made more.
As for the House of Ideas that Stan Built, Logan is 18th overall, beating Iron Man by a measly $200,000.
As for the "Distinguished Competition", Logan is still behind all three DCEU films. Man of Steel is the closest, at $668 million worldwide.
We'll see if Logan stays in theaters until May 5th...when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 comes out.
Have a good week Pepe!

Monday Movie Roundup...3/27/2017

Morning Pepe.
I don't have a ton of time, so let's get to it:
Logan is at $565.4 million worldwide. It's already the top Wolverine film. As for the rest of mutant-kind,
it surpassed X-Men: Apocalypse's $543.9 million.
In terms of all Marvel-based films, it's 19th, right behind Iron Man.
And, across the aisle, it's made more than Batman (1989), but less than Man of Steel.
Good Job!
Gotta go!
Have a good week!

So, Iron Fist (WTF? Friday...3/24/2017)

Hey Joe, let me ask you a question:
Have you seen Iron Fist? 'Cause I've seen Iron Fist.
I saw Luke Cage too, but there was a disconnect.
For one thing, I don't know the character very well. I've got a couple of issues, including some Power Man and Iron Fist, but I knew his origin...his motivation...his "gist".
The show, however, emphasized Harlem. I know nothing about the history of Harlem. I liked the show, but that lack of knowledge affected my enjoyment.
Now back to Iron Fist.
Again, I don't know the character well, but I got his 'gist'. However this time around, my interest wasn't very high. I'm just not a fan of martial arts based comics. I don't think he's a bad character or poorly written or anything, it's just that he (and his genre of books) aren't my cup of tea.
I like what the show didn't do - focus on Chinatown, spend a lot of time in K'un-Lun or feel too "Kung Fu Fighting".
I also didn't like what it didn't do - show us any of K'un-Lun, have Danny meet Luke or give us the mask.
I like what it did - show us Danny re-integrating himself into his former life (and world for that matter) and kick some serious ass.
I also didn't like what it did - give us a lot (a LOT) of Rand Corporation. Know how much I knew about Rand Corporation from the books?
THAT much.
Know how much I cared about Rand Corporation in the show? Same thing.
I love Love LOVE Claire. I'll never get tired of watching her integrate herself into the Defenders mythos. Say what you want, the Netflix shows needed a Coulson. They got one HELL of a Coulson. And in some ways, a better one.
I guess what I'm saying is - since the books didn't hold my interest, the show didn't either.
But is that because the show was bad? Is it because the character is bad? I really don't know. I am planning on rewatching the series in the near future...and yeah, eventually buying it on Blu-ray.
Don't judge.
My hope is that the show will have the chance to improve with Season 2 (which it deserves), giving fans more of what we want - especially after reading Season 1 reviews like this one.

Enjoy your weekend!
