WTF Fridays...the Sunday Edition

I know. It's Sunday.
But this past Friday was Black Friday, and...work.
I had to be there for 6 AM. Not only to prepare for customers (who didn't show up until after 8, thank you very much), but also to prepare for visitation from my boss' boss' boss' boss..who decided that Black Friday is the perfect day to visit three retail stores.
Really Mister Boss-man?
Look. Stores get shopped. Hard. On Black Friday, even more so. Best case? Stores are so busy and crammed with people that no one can neaten and straighten shelves. Which can be a problem when visited. Worst case? All the customers are somewhere else, and all the shelves and tables are pristine...which brings it's own set of problems.
So it's been stressful...
I should be back to regular form Monday, when we see how Hunger Games did.

There's weather coming...

...and people are in a tizzy.
It amazes me that they fail to realize the 50+ degree temps we've had the past few days are not the norm.
So now that we're expecting anywhere from 6 inches to a foot of white stuff, everyone's all
(sigh)
Yeah, it sucks that it's the day before Thanksgiving and travelling's gonna be a bear. But if people calm the f**k down and drive wisely (including me because I have to open at work today), everything's gonna be okay.

Monday Movie Review...11/24/2014

Good Morning Pepe!
THG: M Part 1 made about $123 million in the States this weekend.
Internationally, it made about $152 million.
(That's about $275 million total.)
Yep. That's a lot of money.
But articles are coming out complaining that this film "failed to meet expectations".
Why? Because it made less on opening weekend than the other films in the franchise.
W...T...F...?
First of all, did any other film open this weekend?
'Cause if they did, BoxOfficeMojo.com didn't list 'em.
Lionsgate needs to relax a bit.
They know THG is their biggest franchise (especially after losing Punisher),
and while not Harry Potter or the Avengers is doing pretty damn well for them.
In fact, all three films have raked in over $1.8 billion so far.
That's with this weekend's worth and another film waiting for next year.
So if Lionsgate needs to worry about anything at all, it should be "what's coming after", not "why didn't we make more?"
I wouldn't be surprised if Infinity War Part 1 doesn't make $300 million opening weekend.
First of all - it's Part F**king One! Secondly - People have lives, you know?
Not everyone (myself included) can get to the damn theater whenever we want.
So yeah, THG: M Part 1 will indeed make quite a bit of coin. Just not...right...now.
Wait 'till Christmas is all I'm saying.
Have a good week everyone!

WTF Friday 11/21/2014...Phase Three Part Four

Thor 3 has a name...and it's irksome.
Ragnarok is the end. The end of Asgard.
Unless...
...we're talking about the character.
Ragnarok was a clone of Thor, created by Tony Stark, Reed Richards and Hank Pym and appeared in Civil War (the comic) #3. Come to think of it, whatever happened to that knife-thingy with Thor's blood on it from Avengers?
So, this film could be about the destruction of Asgard and the deaths of Odin, Sif, Loki, The Warriors Three, and Thor. Or it could be about a clone of Thor being created by Stark and Pym ('cause remember - Ant-Man will be out) after Thor's "demise" in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Because bad things are gonna happen in A:AoU
It could go either way.
(sigh)
W...T...F...?
My guess is that they'll bring a female Thor into the MCU by having a female clone.
And when Infinity War happens, there will be two of them.

Monday Movie Roundup...11/17/2014

It's been a long weekend Pepe, let's see what's been happening...
Whiplash made over $3 million worldwide it's first weekend. Not bad!
What?
It's not about Mark Scarlotti?
The f**k?
You know, Hollywood's gotta stop doing that.
Believe it or not, GotG, is still in theaters.
It made another $310,000 in the U.S. after 16 weeks. Wow.
Don't even talk to me Carrey.
Your dumb Dumb and Dumber To took the top spot with over $38 million.
That's despite coming out almost twenty years after the first one.
I know Jean-Luc.
We're gonna need something stronger than synthehol to wash that down.
Have a good week everyone!

WTF Friday 11/14/2014...Phase Three Part Three

So...why would this be a WTF? Not because of what it will be, but because of what I know it won't be, as in, who it won't include. Starting with...
Yondu. My Yondu to be exact.
I know, The Walking Dead guy did a decent job. He had the sonic arrow and the blue skin. But he also had stubble. And a missing tooth maybe? And the fin. WHERE THE HELL WAS THE FIN?
Charlie-27
I love this guy. He's "Cosmic Thing" to me. The heart of the team and solid as they come...and he'll never be on-screen. Anywhere. This sucks.
Martinex
He's pretty awesome. Organic crystal skin, heat from his right hand, cold from his left. Another little tidbit - he came from Pluto...which isn't a planet anymore. Between that and the insanely expensive CGI involved, Martinex will also stay off the silver screen. Damnit!
Firelord
Pyreus Kril would...at best...have a three second cameo/reference like Bereet. First - CGI again, but he'd sure look great for all of those three seconds. Also - he's got ties to Galactus. And FOX owns that puppy, no matter how badly they'll screw it up...again.
 Mantis
A great female character that becomes the Celestial Madonna. However...since she starts out an abandoned baby left at a Kree temple hidden on Earth, is raised to be the Celestial Madonna and then gets her memory wiped and winds up a Vietnamese prostitute...things might need to be changed. Which takes time.
Talon
One of my favorites from the 1990 version of the Guardians. Assuming you know anything about this character, forget everything you know about this character. Just look at him. Look at him and tell me how to make him work. Because as badly as I want him to, I can't. Moving on...
Adam Warlock
This guy should show up. The cocoon we saw in Thor: The Dark World and GotG could easily have "opened" when Collector's room went blooey. He'd even make a connection to Avengers 3. But he won't. Because he should. That sucks.
Starhawk
I'm calling it. This is Star-Lord's dad. Oh yeah, he'll be mentioned, referenced, heck even named in this film. But we won't see him. If anything, he'll reveal himself in Avengers 3 Part 2 when the Guardians show up at the fight at the end of the world.
W...T...F...?
Why can't Marvel Studios just give us what we want? Why do they need to jerk us around with hems, haws and maybes? I do think Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will be a fun ride, just not the one I want.

A Dork(ification)’s Episode Review - Smallville: 'Pilot'

Since I've been reviewing all the comic-based shows this year, I figured I may as well include the one that started them all. I've caught a few episodes here and there, but since this show isn't available to stream I'll be doing these reviews whenever I can get my hands on them between the mail and the nearest actual video store.
These reviews will also be more in-depth than my First Impressions reviews.

Monday Movie Roundup...11/10/2014

Good Morning Pepe!

GotG is still hanging in there, making another $415,000 in the States.
It's at $768 million worldwide.
Yeah, I know it needs another $4 million+ to beat Iron Man 3, but I'm happy.
I'm not exactly sure what needs must be met to pull a movie from theaters,
but if this past weekend was it's last I'm okay with it.
Besides, there's roughly a month before it's released on Blu-ray (Dec. 9)...
John Wick is at $42.7 million, which is more than twice it's budget.
I haven't heard anything definitive about casting Doctor Strange,
but Reeves would be my personal pick.
Have a good week everyone!
