Monday Movie Roundup...6/5/2017

Is it Monday again Pepe?
 Let's talk!
Wonder Woman made over $223 million worldwide over opening weekend. That's big. About $100.5 million of that came from the States. That's huge.
It's #4 overall within the DCEU, but I think it has the potential to make another $500 million and surpass #3's Man of Steel.
And no. I had no idea that was Princess Buttercup.

Meanwhile, GotGv2 has made over $816.5 million worldwide.
That puts it at #5 in the MCU franchise, and beats the first Guardians by about $40 million.
That's all I've got today. Sorry about the inconsistency in posting, but we're in the middle of selling our house, moving to a smaller apartment, and Adorkette beginning the college application process.
So things are tough.
Have a good week Pepe!

Monday Movie Roundup...5/15/2017

Is it Monday again? Already?
Okay...
GotGv2 made an additional $63 million in the U.S. over the weekend, bringing its total domestic gross to over $246.1 million. Everywhere else, it's brought in more than $384.4 million. This brings the worldwide total past the $ 630.5 million mark.
That puts it ninth within the MCU franchise - more than Iron Man 2, but less than Thor: The Dark World. It has about another $144 million to go to beat the original Guardians.
As for the other franchise...
GotGv2 is a mere $39 million away from their third place finisher - Man of Steel.

Have a good week Pepe!

WTF Friday 11/14/2014...Phase Three Part Three

So...why would this be a WTF? Not because of what it will be, but because of what I know it won't be, as in, who it won't include. Starting with...
Yondu. My Yondu to be exact.
I know, The Walking Dead guy did a decent job. He had the sonic arrow and the blue skin. But he also had stubble. And a missing tooth maybe? And the fin. WHERE THE HELL WAS THE FIN?
Charlie-27
I love this guy. He's "Cosmic Thing" to me. The heart of the team and solid as they come...and he'll never be on-screen. Anywhere. This sucks.
Martinex
He's pretty awesome. Organic crystal skin, heat from his right hand, cold from his left. Another little tidbit - he came from Pluto...which isn't a planet anymore. Between that and the insanely expensive CGI involved, Martinex will also stay off the silver screen. Damnit!
Firelord
Pyreus Kril would...at best...have a three second cameo/reference like Bereet. First - CGI again, but he'd sure look great for all of those three seconds. Also - he's got ties to Galactus. And FOX owns that puppy, no matter how badly they'll screw it up...again.
 Mantis
A great female character that becomes the Celestial Madonna. However...since she starts out an abandoned baby left at a Kree temple hidden on Earth, is raised to be the Celestial Madonna and then gets her memory wiped and winds up a Vietnamese prostitute...things might need to be changed. Which takes time.
Talon
One of my favorites from the 1990 version of the Guardians. Assuming you know anything about this character, forget everything you know about this character. Just look at him. Look at him and tell me how to make him work. Because as badly as I want him to, I can't. Moving on...
Adam Warlock
This guy should show up. The cocoon we saw in Thor: The Dark World and GotG could easily have "opened" when Collector's room went blooey. He'd even make a connection to Avengers 3. But he won't. Because he should. That sucks.
Starhawk
I'm calling it. This is Star-Lord's dad. Oh yeah, he'll be mentioned, referenced, heck even named in this film. But we won't see him. If anything, he'll reveal himself in Avengers 3 Part 2 when the Guardians show up at the fight at the end of the world.
W...T...F...?
Why can't Marvel Studios just give us what we want? Why do they need to jerk us around with hems, haws and maybes? I do think Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will be a fun ride, just not the one I want.

Monday Movie Roundup...9/15/2014

Can you believe we're already halfway through September?
Me neither.
GotG made another $8 million in the States over the weekend.
Hang on now, because that money helped put Guardians over the $611 million mark worldwide.
While that still keeps GotG at 6th place amid Marvel Studio films,
it is now only a mere $12.4 million away from the #5 spot currently held by...
An interesting side note:
Over 2014, several films held the #1 spot more than one week in a row. X-Men: Days of Future Past was #1 twice, along with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers 4 and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. While Captain America: The Winter Soldier was there for three weeks.
Guardians...had it for FIVE!
True, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles took it away for those two weeks,
but Guardians took it back for FOUR CONSECUTIVE WEEKS.
That's...pretty good!

Guardians of the Galaxy...the Spoiler FILLED review

It's been over a week, and I'm ready to talk about (what I remember from) the film.
If you haven't seen it yet, or have but hate spoilers anyway,
do not hit the jump

Monday Movie Roundup...8/4/2014

Good Morning!
As no surprise at all,
Guardians of the Galaxy made the most money over this weekend.
How much you may ask?
$94 million in the States, $66.4 million everywhere else. $160.4 million total.
Yep.
It made $37.8 million on Friday...nothing to sneeze at. And the $94 million puts GotG as the #1 grossing film in the States for the month of August. Ever.
From a Marvel Studios' standpoint, GotG is their tenth top grossing film...out of ten films. (I'm just looking at that sentence for a moment, ten Marvel movies in six years. Holy sheeps#!t.) In ninth place is Incredible Hulk with $263.4 million worldwide. I've got a feeling GotG will beat it's $170 million budget and take the #9 spot by weekend #2.
In terms of opening weekends over this summer (in the U.S.), GotG made more than X-Men: Days of Future Past, Godzilla, and The Amazing Spider-Man...and fell less than $2 million shy of beating Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
How did it fare against DC's films on Domestic opening weekends?
Well, GotG blew Batman Begins $48.7 million out of the water, but made less than The Dark Knight's $158.4 million, and The Dark Knight Rises' $160.9 million. Man of Steel also had a more profitable opening, with $116.6 million. In fact, aside from TDKR, TDK and MoS, Guardians of the Galaxy made more opening weekend than every other DC film. Ever.
Not bad for a bunch of rag-tag interstellar misfits that include a talking raccoon.
Have a good week everyone!

I just had a thought about Nathan Fillion's GotG cameo...

Okay, to quote the great Gabriel Cash, "follow me through here" -
GotG is about a group of intergalactic thugs...
...who (at some point in the film) hang out at some intergalactic bar...
...where anyone can show up!
Well, as cool as that is,
can I still be a liiiiitle disappointed?

Here's what's going on...

Marvel's still promoting the hell out of GotG...which is good.
Yet showing more content from the film to do so bugs me. I don't want to see the film before I see the film. I know I'm in the minority, but this is just a shade away from being a spoiler.
Also,
Mrs. Adorkification and I finally saw THG: CF last night.
I liked it, but at one point shouted to her and Adorkette (both of whom read all the books) if Snow eventually dies. They didn't tell me. Then I got all upity as I tried to figure out how one person can take down a government (surprise, she can't...but will even though she doesn't want to). I was reminded of Philip Seymour Hoffman's tragic death, how awesome Donald Sutherland was in Pride and Prejudice, that that guy was engaged to Miley Cyrus, that that other guy would make a great Aquaman, and that Peeta really doesn't have any kind of skill whatsoever.
I'm in the mood to see good guys actually kick some villain a$$...
...think I'll watch The Avengers again...

THIS IS TOTALLY WICKED!!!

So, you know this movie...
...starring these guys...?
Well, it seems it's gonna feature this guy!
WAIT! I"M NOT DONE!
That guy?
He's gonna have a voice!
And it's by this guy...
...no - I mean this guy...
...hold it...sorry...I mean this guy:
Josh Brolin!
That. Is. AWESOME!
And I guess he's gonna be in that other movie too...
...
HOLY S#!TCAKES!
