Free Comic Book Day 2014 Goodies...Pt. 3

So here's my final FCBD comic, which is no surprise really:
You can jump if you want to...you can leave your friends behind...
This was the best of the bunch.
This isn't my Guardians of the Galaxy. That would be these guys...
...and they were cool!
But this FCBD issue was obviously made for people to get familiar with this bunch before the film comes out,
 in less than three months.

But back to the comic, which has three stories
The third one, written by Dan Slott and drawn by Giuseppe Camuncoli, has an alternate universe Peter Parker (set in Shakespeare-ian England) showing off on stage at the Globe Theatre. A stranger shows up...and kills him.
I know, right?
It seems this teaser leads into a new saga called "Spider-Verse". Coming to a retailer near YOU...in November...
Just tell me this guy kills the "Doc Ock" Spidey guy, okay?
The second story here features Thanos (which at least makes sense ((unlike story #3)) both written and drawn by Jim Starlin. And it is awesome! Thanos sits and ponders as Thanos does, then he visits Drax - who's hanging out with Groot and Rocket. The Eternal comments to the Destroyer that they both have died and been resurrected several times, and asks a single question: Has he noticed anything "amiss" since his last return from the dead? Drax answers by throwing a dagger at him. Thanos (really an illusion all along) vanishes, and the dagger ends up in Groot. Thanos then visits his old flame...
...who sends a rather large minion to threaten him.
One of the great things about this one is that during the conversation with Thanos, Drax changes form. To how he looked back in the old days:
which is not how he looked in the nineties:
which is not how he looks now.
And with Thanos,  everything is not what it seems...which makes me like it even more.
Now for the main course.
It starts off with Tony asking a military corporal if he's ever been off-world. It took me at least three passes to figure out the corporal in question was Flash Thompson, and another to figure out that the little spider symbol on his hat was Venom
What did I say about judging me?
Tony describes each member in turn, and after briefly explaining what the Guardians do as a group, offers Thompson a place on the team. Flash agrees, and the team comes into the room. Rocket makes a remark about Flash being in a wheelchair(?) and then Flash turns into Agent Venom. As Tony and Peter shake hands, Mr. Stark gives Star-Lord a little present - just in case the team encounters any symbiote trouble...
What made this sooo good was the writing. There were eggs in there for people my age, and I love that. That's one of the (many) things I love about the MMU - there's a new telling of a new version of a known universe that throws many hat tips, winks and nods to the old faithfuls like me. Thank you, Brian Michael Bendis. The art was excellent as well. Thank you, Nick Bradshaw.
If you haven't read it yet, do so. I may not collect read new comics anymore, but I like where they're going.
In Marvel Comics I Trust
