Free Comic Book Day 2014 Goodies...Pt. 2

As I mentioned yesterday, I only got three FCBD books this year (Why don't I ever remember to request that day off?), and book #2 includes this guy:
Of course, I remember him when he looked like this...

But I guess now he looks like this...
Here comes the jump. You know what to do...or not to do...
I felt gypped a little bit.
This book actually contains two stories. The second one being a reprint of "Space Oddities"...from somewhere...written by Joe Caramanga and drawn by Ty Templeton. It features Black Panther (or is it White Tiger? and she's female?), Spider-Man, Nova, a little bit of Power Man and Iron Fist, and a little, little, little bit of Nick Fury...the Jackson version.
Now. The intro on page one of the book tells you the second story's a reprint, but calls the woman in the story Black Panther. However, Spidey - on page one of the story mind you - calls her White Tiger.
I'm going with Spidey on that one.
Obviously written for kids, it has Spidey and Panther/Tiger on a mission from Fury to rescue Power Man and Iron Fist...who are prisoners on the Moon.
Stay with me...
Nova (who was told by Fury not to go on the mission) shows up and they all get captured by a short guy who found his true calling after finding alien technology in the Bering Sea: to be a dentist!

Still with me?
Long story short, Nova breaks free, gets re-captured, breaks free again and rescues everyone. Fury shows up at the end to yell at Nova for disobeying a direct order to stay away. Must be because Nova's powers...powered the bad dentist's weapon.
Now back to the main story...
...which was also written by Caramanga, and drawn by Adam Archer.
Rocket sneaks onto a ship run by rabbits to rescue someone named Princess Lynx with the help of Groot and Mr. Wal-rus...
...hang on. It gets better.
The princess? When he frees her from her cell? Punches him in the mouth! It seems she's a warrior princess.
On their way out, they run into Blackjack O'Hare, a rival it seems. They fight, Rocket and Lynx run, but are captured. Groot shows up with Wal-rus in tow, and after the lights go out the heroes are gone...along with the crown of Lord Dyvyne - the Toadie who captured Lynx in the first place.
Not bad Raccoon...not bad...
Back on Rocket's ship, it's revealed that:
1) Rocket had Wal-rus (a techno-wizard) hack the Princess' rescue team and sent them to another part of the galaxy.
2) The bounty for Rocket's head, while significant, is less than that for the Princess - meaning that every hunter around will be looking for them.
3) Rocket lies to the Galactic Council, telling them she was left behind.

We're left with Rocket telling Wal-rus to set course for someplace called Laxadazia...to paw-n Dyvyne's crown.
C'mon...that was good!
Anyways, I liked this story. I've always been a fan of Rocket in comics. It's his interpretation on film I have a problem with. He's cool, and I remember some of the names from the last comic of his I bought...
...back in 1985.
The second story (which doesn't have Rocket in it at all, WTF?) was lame. A kids book set in the Ultimate universe? Isn't that the same universe where Hank Pym put Janet in the hospital?
Wouldn't a better choice for a second story reprint have been...I dunno...
...just maybe?
