Monday Movie Roundup...5/26/2014

And a Happy Memorial Day to all...
...and let's get to it.
It should come to no one's surprise that X-Men: Days of Future Past took the top spot making $261.7 million over the weekend worldwide. $90.7 million of that came from the States, while the remaining $171+ million from the Foreign market. The film had an estimated budget of $200 million, so it's made a profit right out of the gate.
Let's compare it to the other X-films...shall we?
Taking into consideration that this movie is roughly four days old, it's currently at the bottom of the list - #7 of all Mutant related films released to date. What's at #6? X-Men, as in the first film released back in 2000, which made $296.3 million and will most likely become #7 by the end of today (Monday).
But that's not even the most interesting thing. Wanna guess which film is #1 (at $459.4 million)?
Ga 'head...I'll give you a minute.

Yep, that's right - X-Men: The Last Stand.

Exactly...
Even more interesting is that X-M: DOFP is more than halfway there already. I'm convinced that this will become the biggest grossing X-film of all time, it's just a question of when.
I'm not a gambling man, so I won't put any money on it, but looking at the calendar I'll take Monday June 9th the latest.
In related news...
Godzilla is up to $315.3 million worldwide, putting it only $63.7 million behind top runner Godzilla (1998).
Go get 'em!
Amazing Spider-Man 2 is now at $673.9 million worldwide, $78.3 million behind A:S-M (which is the #4 Spidey film). I think this one will beat the first one, but not Raimi's Spider-Man 2 (which is #3).
And finally...
CA: TWS is now at $707.6 million worldwide. This puts it solidly in third place among MMU films behind Iron Man 3 and The Avengers. The only question I have about this film at this point is: What will the Marvel One-Shot be?
It could be about Loki keeping Odin imprisoned...
It could be about Thanos' involvement with the Guardians...
It could be about the actual Mandarin...
It could be about Baron von Struker...
I could go on and on. I'm sure we'll be hearing details in June, as we gear up for the August release on DVD/Blu-ray. But it's nice to think about and dwell on...which is part of the fun.
Have a good week everyone!
