WTF? Friday...2/28/2014

I was planning to talk about my concerns and questions on Marvel Studios' upcoming films...
...then I saw "Time of Death" this morning.
For all the problems DC has with their comics and films, I will say this:
there were more cool Adorkable Moments in the first five minutes of that show,
than there were in two whole episodes of AoS.
W...T...F...AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.?
I'm putting my foot down. You've got 9 chances left to win me over.
If you don't, I just might not buy your Blu-Ray.
So there!

Who's that on Empire Cover #12?

Why it's Director Bryan Singer!
Yeah, I don't get it either...

Black Widow gets a film...sort of...

First off - this is a fan-based logo. There is no official confirmation of a Black Widow film in production...but there should be!
I'm a little biased though. I'm a firm believer that every comic character from every publishing company is somebody's favorite and should have their own movie...when done right.
Even Ambush Bug...
...Rocket...
...and Sue Storm.
I'd watch them all, and then decide whether or not to own them. Now unfortunately, the argument that "moviegoers are not ready to see a female lead in a comic-based film" has merit:

but these films didn't do very well at the Box Office not because of casting, character or concept, but because they weren't very good
Don't believe me?

So I'm all for Black Widow to become an additional chapter in the MMU.
Does it suck that it's been this long? Yeah, it does.

So...what's happening with X-Men: DoFP's Beast?

According to Nicholas Hoult...aw the heck with it, I'll let him speak for himself:
What’s happened up to this point is between the time of the last movie and this movie my character has created a serum which basically controls his mutation so his appearance is normal as long as he doesn’t get worked up. Any animal instinct or urges, that kind of brings him out. So yeah, he changes into Beast a few times throughout the story and they’ve done some great action sequences with him this time, particularly in the mansion flying around on these chandeliers and stuff.
Yeah...why exactly are they doing this? To show off special effects?
I'm not going to jump the gun and use movies that haven't come out yet to prove my point, but looking back at all Marvel Studio films to date, they've stayed true to their characters - in both personalities and abilities - while adapting where necessary to successfully transition from comics to film.
Which is what's supposed to happen when you let the comic book people interact with the movie people.
But with X-Men: Days of Future Past, it seems Hank McCoy will be able to change from furry to non-furry and back again. Not at will...but still.
If this ability is necessary for story development, I'd understand...
...but couldn't they just use Stark Danger Room technology to create a mobile device that allowed Hank to appear "normal" when necessary? From...you know...the comics?

Monday Movie Roundup...2/24/2014

I'm back.
Yeah...I know...
The LEGO Movie kept the top spot, making more than $31.4 million this weekend.
It's up to $275.6 million worldwide so far.
That's a lot of bricks...
3 Days to Kill, Jonathan Kent's Kevin Costner's latest, came in second place, with $12.3 million.
I saw the Super Bowl trailer, and put this on my "Rent It" list.
"Real Football"...still funny.
Robocop is up to $143.6 million worldwide after only 12 days.
That's impressive, but so is the fact that roughly $100 million of it came from overseas.
Vampire Academy hasn't been doing too well, with only $7.6 million made to date.
By contrast, Warm Bodies (released Feb. 1, 2013) had over $50 million in the bank by Week 3.
Teens are so fickle...
I, Frankenstein only made $130,000 this weekend, putting the worldwide total at over $58.6 million.
It's been out a month, but will it reach the $65 million it needs to break even?
The Legend of Hercules has been out 45 days, and has made less than $36 million worldwide.
Okay Marvel Studios...time to step in...
And finally,
The Invisible Woman made a whopping $27,100.
It's at $1,092,300 total, so...yay?
Have a good week everyone!

WTF? Friday...The GotG Edition...2/21/2014

So Marvel Studios continues with the Guardians of the Galaxy funny with their first official poster:
Thank you Marvel...Thank you very much!
But seriously, I really don't get the outfits. Do they wear them in the comics?
Also: Adorkette's celebrating her 14th birthday this weekend. (Being born in Late-December puts a damper on party plans.) That being said, the house will be busy so I'm taking the weekend off and will return Monday the 24th.
Have a good weekend everyone!

In (my) space, no one can hear...your GotG trailer

Long Story Short, I've recently gained both a computer and internet access in my "space" aka the basement.
The Good - I can use the internet at my leisure, and blog when I'm able...instead of when the family computer's free.
The Bad - the computer I'm using doesn't have a sound card.
What does this mean?
It means I can see this...
...but I can't hear it.
So naturally, the first thing I notice is Gamora's hair. Red? Really? I'm hoping that's some attempt at a disguise.
Other things I noticed?
* I recognize the Nova Corps symbol, but where's the helmets?
* Star-Lord Quill's a smart-ass. Not sure if that's faithful to the books though. I keep missing Major Victory/Justice/Vance Astro.
* Am I the only one who looks at Rocket and Groo and sees Quark and Odo?
* I caught a glimpse of del Toro's Collector, but where the heck was Yondu?
I'm gonna go join the other million-plus people who've seen this thing already and see it a few more times...hopefully with sound.

First Impressions - AoS: 'T.R.A.C.K.S.'

This is by no means a deeply intense dissection of the episode.
That will happen over the summer after my purchase of the Blu-ray.
I've put my quick comments and notes after seeing the episode only once after the jump.
You've been warned...

Monday Movie Roundup…2/17/2014

It was a pretty busy weekend –

The Lego Movie did particularly well, making an additional $48.8 million. This puts the film at $180.3 million so far and has been out for all of 10 days.

On a side note, this is giving Chris Pratt a taste of what’s coming in August when Guardians of the Galaxy is released. Cobie Smulders, on the other hand, is used to this kind of financial return on a project. As for Will Ferrell, this is probably the most money any of his projects has ever seen.

Robocop made $96.3 million over the weekend…just shy of the $100 million price tag. Most of that, $69.9 million worth, came from the foreign market. This makes sense, since most of the chatter against this remake came from the States. I’ll probably still see it though, if for no other reason than Jackie Earle Haley.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug remained open too. Fire made another $540,000 and is close to $862.4 million worldwide. Smaug brought in $505,000 and is now at $858.8 worldwide.

And finally, a moment to rejoice:
Invisible Woman made $29,600 over the weekend! So what? That put the grand total $38,000 past the $1 million mark.
Enjoy the week everybody!

Ladies and Gentlemen...Empire Cover #11

Hugh Jackman in the role that made him a star.
* Love the bone claws. That's right from The Wolverine and I'm a sucker for consistency.
* Notice the X's on his belt? Nice touch!
* What's with the car behind him? He can't fly, so either the car is in a ditch or he's standing on a platform. Either way...wtf?

A theory on Coulson’s “death”…

I gave my opinion that the plot of GotG will involve the Time Gem Stone earlier this week.
I also mentioned the speculation among fans that the item in Loki’s scepter was in fact the Mind Gem Stone.

We all know that Coulson was stabbed by Loki’s scepter.

Now bear with me:
If we accept the theory that the scepter does contain Mind, then Coulson was killed by the Mind Gem Stone.
Therefore, it’s possible that Mind somehow prevented Coulson from dying.

Still with me?

However, according to an episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., (“The Magical Place” to be exact), Coulson wanted to die. If that’s true, then the Mind Gem Stone should have theoretically let him die.

But it didn’t.

In fact, S.H.I.E.L.D. messed with Coulson’s brain to make him not want to die…

…meaning S.H.I.E.L.D. messed with Coulson’s mind.

So here’s my brilliant theory:

The scepter doesn’t have Mind.

It has Soul.

That would explain why Coulson didn’t die. The Soul Gem Stone kept Coulson’s soul within his body.

Leaving S.H.I.E.L.D. to deal with convincing his body to keep going.

It would also explain why we haven’t seen the scepter since The Avengers.

What? It’s possible…
