Mrs. Adorkification, I Love You...

My wife is a maker.

Her hobbies are of that ilk. She sews, cooks, beads, quilts (is that even a word?) and such. It drives me crazy, because more often than not there's s#!t all over a table, a floor, our bedroom, etc. 

In case you're unaware, I'm a collector.

Comics, Magic cards, Blu-rays, novels, music CD's, mugs...if I have an interest in anything, my natural tendency is to get all of them. This drivers her nuts, because my s#!t (while neatly organized thank you very much) continues to grow. 

So it's not very often when our hobbies mesh.

She loves Lord of the Rings enough to let my buy the movie box set (DVD for now...but I'm working her towards the upgrade), the Game of Thrones books are worthy of actually owning (but they have to be of the same cover art/collection). She wants to make a Mexican something-or-other for dinner, and I'll eat it (which is very rarely...unpalatable).

I let her bring out her totes - that's right, totes - of Legos to build some castle-thingy or whatever so it can sit there on the dinner table for days until she no longer feels "inspired" and takes it all apart and puts everything away.

Why anyone would build something just to take it apart? Not to mention -

But then one day, I came home and saw this:

It's a display case...made by Lego...for Legos. It can stand on a table or be mounted on a wall, and yes they can interlock with other display cases.

She thought it was a "cool thing we can share" regarding our hobbies.

Yeah, I'm loved...but there's more - the very next thing I bought with my allowance, 

(don't go there), was this:

an Iron Man Mark I Lego...what is it? Fig? Minifig? Whatever.

When it came in the mail, I put it together and showed her. She thought it was awesome. But if you notice in the picture above, this figure wasn't made by Lego but by Decool, a Lego-compatable alternate company. (I shopped around, and thought this version of what's out there - which by the way is a lot - looked coolest.) When I told her this, she looked at me and said "But it's not a real Lego..." 

Mrs. Adorkification, I dub thee...adorkable.

WTF? Friday...2/28/2014

I was planning to talk about my concerns and questions on Marvel Studios' upcoming films...

...then I saw "Time of Death" this morning.

For all the problems DC has with their comics and films, I will say this:

there were more cool Adorkable Moments in the first five minutes of that show,

than there were in two whole episodes of AoS.

W...T...F...AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.?

I'm putting my foot down. You've got 9 chances left to win me over.

If you don't, I just might not buy your Blu-Ray.

So there!

Adorkable Moment

My main problem with the few webseries I’ve seen is that you have to keep clicking every 2 minutes 37 seconds, but the acting and writing have always been good.

I haven’t heard much about a Buck Rogers webseries, but I thought it was some half-assed attempt to mine more gold from my childhood.

I had no idea this was coming…

Erin Gray and Gil Gerard. As Buck’s parents. This casting genius ranks right up there with Annette O’Toole and John Schneider as Ma and Pa Kent.

I’m hooked already.

Adorkable Moment

Psych - Season 4, Episode 13 - Death Is In The Air

There’s a lot to love about this show; the ever-present pineapple, references to movies, music, pop culture, the 80’s, and so on.

But it’s the things I catch, and my wife doesn’t, that bring out my ‘adorkable’ moments.

When Shawn and Gus start talking about “Mister Dobalena, Mister Bob Dobalena” in this episode, I lost it laughing and she just stared at me. I had to explain.




It comes from the first line of a Monkees song off of their Headquarters album, (which I happened to own - on vinyl - as a kid, and probably still have around here somewhere) called Zilch. It is a beautiful, acapella song, and I thought I was the only person in the world who remembered it.

Plus, the album has extra-special, yummy, adorkable, geeky musical significance.

What’s the significance of this album you may ask? Well…

The Monkees had complete creative control - for the first time - on this album. They wrote most of the songs themselves, played their own instruments, decided which session musicians to include, and who they wanted to help them produce it. It was so good; when it was released on May 22, 1967, it was the number one album in this country…for one week.

Why only one week? Some fools calling themselves the Beatles released their next album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, which stayed at #1 for the next eleven weeks.

That’s okay though, because Headquarters stayed at #2 for the same number of weeks.
