Monday Movie Roundup...8/4/2014

Good Morning!
As no surprise at all,
Guardians of the Galaxy made the most money over this weekend.
How much you may ask?
$94 million in the States, $66.4 million everywhere else. $160.4 million total.
Yep.
It made $37.8 million on Friday...nothing to sneeze at. And the $94 million puts GotG as the #1 grossing film in the States for the month of August. Ever.
From a Marvel Studios' standpoint, GotG is their tenth top grossing film...out of ten films. (I'm just looking at that sentence for a moment, ten Marvel movies in six years. Holy sheeps#!t.) In ninth place is Incredible Hulk with $263.4 million worldwide. I've got a feeling GotG will beat it's $170 million budget and take the #9 spot by weekend #2.
In terms of opening weekends over this summer (in the U.S.), GotG made more than X-Men: Days of Future Past, Godzilla, and The Amazing Spider-Man...and fell less than $2 million shy of beating Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
How did it fare against DC's films on Domestic opening weekends?
Well, GotG blew Batman Begins $48.7 million out of the water, but made less than The Dark Knight's $158.4 million, and The Dark Knight Rises' $160.9 million. Man of Steel also had a more profitable opening, with $116.6 million. In fact, aside from TDKR, TDK and MoS, Guardians of the Galaxy made more opening weekend than every other DC film. Ever.
Not bad for a bunch of rag-tag interstellar misfits that include a talking raccoon.
Have a good week everyone!
