Monday Movie Roundup...2/23/2015

Okay Pepe, after last week's dose of ridiculousness, we're back to reality.
Fifty Shades of Grey made less than 72% of what it made last week...
...but it was still the top grossing film of the weekend with another $23.2 million in the bank. It's at $410.6 million worldwide, and over two-thirds of that is from foreign markets.
Exactly. Meanwhile,
John Cusack is a genius...for knowing when to stop.
The first film was a blend of nostalgia, for those who remember the '80's with actual fondness (like me), and low-brow bathroom humor, for those who thought Porky's was funny (un-like me). This sequel threw out that first part altogether. I've seen the trailers, and some of it was funny - just not $10.50 per ticket's worth.
And I'm not alone.
HTTM2 made only $5.8 million opening weekend, and boxofficemojo.com is already calling it a bomb, which I think is a little premature. The film's budget was only $14 million and yeah, it made back less than half in its first three days...but we're only talking three days here. It's in the top ten, making more than both Jupiter Ascending (duh!) and The Imitation Game (huh?). Is this a bad film? Absolutely. But a bomb? Every film that's released should have a couple of weeks to "find it's audience" before officially earning that title.
While I'd be surprised if 14 million people actually spend money to see this film, it wouldn't surprise me at all if 14 million dollars finds its way into the HTTM2 savings account. For better or worse.
Have a good week all!
