I'm getting old...(WTF? Friday 7/31/2015)

I know I'm going deaf..
I know I'm going blind.
I know my get-up-and-go had gone-up-and-went.
But when I bought Saga of the Swamp Thing Vol. 4 used for under $14 not too long ago, I thought I was getting a deal...
...until I came home and found out that I already had it!
You know - there was a time in my life...
...when I had all of my Star Wars figures...
...in my C3PO and Vader cases (which had separate compartments for all the weapons),
and could match them all to their guns by memory!
Not anymore.
W...T...F...?
I will say that if I could wind up like these guys,
I think I can deal.

Comic Alphabet: J

I think this piece is missing some tats...and teeth.
Okay, okay...
I've got Jack of Hearts (Marvel, and a really cool character by the way), Jester (also Marvel, and yeah - he's Daredevil's Joker), Jack Frost (Marvel), Jack O'Lantern, Junkyard (G. I. Joe), Jazz (Transformers), Jacosta, Jonah Hex and...uh...Jubilee. That's all I got.
Wait...does Jean-Luc count?

Monday Movie Roundup...7/27/2015

 Morning Pepe! Let's talk Ant-Man!
Well, it made #1 again over the weekend, beating out Pixels and Minions with an additional $24.7 million in the States.
It's at $226.4 million worldwide, meaning it's...
...only $36.9 million away from putting The Incredible Hulk back at the bottom of the MCU pile.
...Paul Rudd's second top grossing film ($155 million away from Monsters Vs. Aliens).
...Michael Douglas' third top grossing film (behind Fatal Attraction and Basic Instinct).
...still Evangeline Lilly's fourth top grossing film (but within sight of Real Steel's #299.3 million).
...made a $96.4 million profit - so far.
Thumbs up indeed.

As for Marvel Studios' other recent release, it hasn't been doing too well.
I wasn't aware that Jean Grey's solo film made its debut in Germany.
It's made a whopping $28,000 so far, but it's in German. With subtitles. So...yeah.

As for that other one,
it's at $1.395 billion, and might make it to $1.4 before leaving theaters. I know they had Avengers playing through Labor Day, but I don't see that happening here. I'm okay with that - 'cause it'll hit the shelves that much sooner.
Have a good week all!

WTF Internet? (WTF? Friday 7/24/2015)

To be honest, I should have expected this.
With Adorkette home for the summer (along with every other teenager in the neighborhood), gaining - and keeping - internet access has been a real bitch.
It's exhausting really. Not only is it hard to blog, it's hard to watch trailers, read emails, hell - it's a pain watching television.
W...T...F?
Seriously!

Comic Alphabet: I

Makes sense...Invisible Woman wouldn't have worked.
Let's see: there's Impossible Man, Ironhide (Transformers), Isis (the 1970's television character), Isis (the 52 character), the Inhumans (again - a group, but I'm counting them), Iceman, Indiana Jones (what...no? He was a Marvel character at one point.), In-Betweener and Iron Fist. I know I'll think of more throughout the day, but this is all I can come up with off the top of my head.

SDCC 2015 - The Batman v. Superman trailer

Let's do this. For the record - I'm in official "wait and see" mode. Here's why:
First of all, that was Elastigirl from The Incredibles at the mike. (GOOD)
I get the gist that they're using Superman's battle with Zod as the catalyst for Bruce Wayne to (what looks like) bring Batman back from retirement - explaining why Bruce looks significantly older than he should. (GOOD)
As for the family on the roof, you have to understand that Superman shouldn't need anyone to paint a message that they need his help. He'd hear them. Then there's the disaster of the flood itself. If it came from a broken dam, he could have stopped it from happening. If it was an act of nature, couldn't he just evaporate the water with his heat vision? And why would he just hover there and look? He'd act. (BAD)
Martha Kent has a point. Kal doesn't owe the Earth anything. In this franchise, Clark didn't don the cape because he set out to right wrongs - he got the suit after learning about his history, but wore it in public after Zod's address (which should have been the catalyst for Bruce to suit up again). It also looks like Bruce had a run-in with Joker that forced him into retirement in the first place. (GOOD)
Superman meets Lex, and kneels before him. WTF? Gotta be because he has someone (most likely Lois) hostage. I also think that his going down into the tunnel with the soldiers kneeling before him was on his way to meet Lex. (BAD)
We're going to get Bruce's origin. AGAIN! (REALLY BAD)
We're going to get Wonder Woman. FINALLY! (REALLY GOOD)
What's with the soldiers wearing The Symbol for Hope? (BAD)
Aaaand Lex has kryptonite. Which explains why Bruce fights Kal, because he goes wonky after exposure to the kryptonite after kneeling before Lex. F**K! (BAD)
I hope this film has a more positive feel than MoS, or it could be DOA.

Comic Alphabet: H

Okay...
I understand why the artist went with Hulk, but I would have gone with someone a little less predictable - Hercules (Marvel). Now I'll admit that not everyone would know Herc as a Marvel character, but if done right it would at least remind people of Steve Reeves...
Damn.
Hawkwoman (or Hawkman) could also have worked. Along with, I dunno, HAWKEYE!?! There's also Havok, Hitman (the DC character, not the video game 'red necktie' guy), Hammerhead (the Marvel Maggia Member), Hippolyta (Wonder Woman's mother...duh!), and lets not forget HYDRA 'red shirt guy' #5, Hydro-Man, Hepzibah (of the Starjammers, and if you don't know who they are you need to read more blogs like this), Hoggoth (as in 'The Hoary Hosts of...' soon to be uttered by Mr. Cumberbatch), The Heckler (DC), Hourman (also DC), Haunted Tank (see...I know some stuff), Harbinger (from DC's classic Crisis On Infinite Earths), Harbinger (Valiant, although they're a group so I guess they wouldn't count but screw it, I'm counting them anyway 'cause they're awesome), and of course...Howard the Duck.
 NO!!!
YESSSSS!!!

Monday Movie Roundup...7/20/2015

Buongiorno Pepe!

What? I'm feeling a little Italian today!
Fine. Moving on...
I want to thank each and every one of you who helped me make Ant-Man the top grossing film in America.

THANK YOU!!!
How good did it do?
It made over $58 million in the U.S., and an additional $56 million everywhere else, making the worldwide total more than $114 million.
That's serious moola, but let's add some perspective shall we?
In terms of Marvel Studios' films, it's dead last. But only $149 million away from eleventh place (The Incredible Hulk's $263.4 million), and I can totally see that happening before Ant-Man leaves theaters.
In "Paul Rudd-anese", this film broke his Worldwide Top 10, making more than Dinner for Schmucks, This is 40, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Still ahead are Romeo + Juliet (#5), Anchorman 2 (#4), The 40-Year-Old Virgin (#3), Knocked Up (#2), and Monsters Vs. Aliens. Not bad.
As for Michael Douglas, Ant-Man broke his Worldwide Top 15. It beat out Romancing the Stone, The Jewel of the Nile, The American President and The Game. But it's still behind such classics as Basic Instinct, Fatal Attraction, Disclosure, The War of the Roses, Last Vegas and Black Rain
As for Evangeline Lily,
Ant-Man is her fourth top grossing film worldwide. It's within reach of her #3: Real Steel ($299 million), but doesn't have a prayer of even touching her Top 2: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies ($955 million) and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug ($960 million).
Damn!
The one notable downside so far is that even with the $114 million in the bank, it still fell short of its production budget of $130 million.
Now hang on Bill...don't lose your cool.
While Ant-Man hasn't made money (in Hollywood terms) yet, it was the top grossing film in America opening weekend. It's also only what? $16 million away from breaking even?
Even with only 12 weeks in theaters, The Incredible Hulk made a profit of over $100 million. And that's Marvel Studios' "weakest" film.
I'm confident that Ant-Man will more than break even this coming weekend, and will eventually be Paul Rudd's second worldwide grossing film...and Douglas' third...and Lily's third - maybe.
Buona settimana a tutti!
