Well I was clearly mistaken...

Earlier this week, I made a prediction about the Marvel One-Shot included in the Blu-Ray release of T:TDW being about Loki's replacement of his father Odin.

Well, I was wrong.

Turns out it's about the other guy...

I'm okay with this. Trevor Slattery needs some validation and justification, and us fans need some restitution. As for what this will be about, all I know is that he's in jail, and someone visits the place to talk to him.
My opinion/hope/wish? The visitor brings Trevor a message...and a present. One ring. Which Trevor then uses to break out of the joint.
By the way, Trevor's being held at Seagate Prison...where Carl Lucas (later Luke Cage) was held on trumped up charges until he escaped after gaining super powers from an experimental process.

Coincidence?

WTF? Fridays...1/10/2014

I just found out that there ware plans to introduce another character into the MMU in Thor: The Dark World...

Brunnhilde, otherwise known as:

Valkyrie.

I know there are many people who dissed Iron Man 2 because there were "too many characters in it.

Okay, never mind the fact that there were even more characters in Avengers and no one had a problem with that.

If you read Marvel comics in the seventies and eighties like I did...

...heck if you even read a back issue from that timer...

...you'd see a lot more than just the plot of the book.

You'd see Spidey swing by, or hear about something going on in Jersey.

That's what made Marvel book so cool:

You felt like you were in a Universe full of characters.

That's one of the things that makes the MMU work too.

So...

W...T...F...MARVEL?

Give us more characters...even if it's a "bit part" with a few throw-away lines.

See, Singer threw a lot of cameos in X-Men, 

right down to Dani Moonstar brushing Brightwind in the stable.

Brightwind...for those not in the know...was a winged horse belonging to Asgard!

Of course, there's little mention of it in the commentary, 

and nothing (I mean nothing) extra on the DVD explaining any of the extra bits of which there were many.

Now I can understand why FOX would pull back on that stuff for legal reasons,

but Marvel Studios' whole idea is that there's more going on than what we're watching in the moment.

So why the heck are they holding themselves back?

All Hail the King...

These guys know what they're doing.

I said yesterday that Thor: TDW is coming out on Blu-Ray/DVD in February,

but then I looked at the bells and whistles. 'Cause with me, it's all about the bells and whistles.

What really caught my attention, aside from the Gag Reel...a must from now on...was the One-Shot.

All we know right now is the title: All Hail the King.

There are two camps of thought about who this could be about:

We know there's a "secret project" out there with Kingsley's name on it, 

but I believe that's a post-credit scene for either Captain America: TWS or GotG.

My money's behind door #2...

In fact, I'm willing to bet it answers the question Adorkette asked after we saw the film:

"Is Odin dead?"

I think All Hail will explain what Loki did in order to take his father's place.

Is Odin's dead? No.

Could it be possible that during the chaos in Asgard, The Other brought his posse looking to claim Loki?

And that Loki's skills with illusion made them convinced they had him...but is actually Odin instead?

Why yes. Yes it is.

The good news is we only have to wait another month and a half to find out. 

But as always...

Monday Movie Roundup...12/2/2013

Never underestimate the power of Thanksgiving Weekend...

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire ran the weekend, making another $74.5 million in the U.S.,

bringing it's domestic gross to roughly $276.5 million.

Internationally, the film has brought in about $573 million.

In just 10 days.

In second place,

which is a surprise.

Frozen made over $93 million so far in the States, and another $16.7 overseas,

making the grand total over the $110 million mark.

That's darn impressive, especially since I haven't heard much about it,

and only found out this morning that Alan Tudyk provides one of the voices.

Thor: TDW finished in third place, with another 11 million U.S. dollars in the bank and a worldwide total of over $591 million.

Putting it in perspective, Iron Man made over $585 million...in it's entire run.

I'd like to think that the execs over at Marvel/Disney will see Iron Man as the bar setter,

instead of other films with numbers nearly impossible to meet.

AoS/Thor 2 crossover?

According to Marvel's Facebook Page,

the November 19th episode will feature events from Thor 2.

I was expecting this, but I always thought the episode would air before the film - 

leading viewers to see the movie for what happens next - 

but I'll allow it.

I'm betting that some bilgesnipe make it to Midgard...

...any takers?

Monday Movie Roundup...11/4/2013

Morning everyone!

Not surprisingly, Ender's Game took the top spot this weekend.

It made about $28 million, which is over 25% of it's $110 million budget.

(I love math...)

Anyway, what I really want to talk about today is...

 ...no...sorry...wrong pic...

Yessss!

See, Thor 2 opened a week early overseas.

...WTF?...

I can understand the UK (where it made $13.4 million), because parts of the movie were filmed there, 

and Australia ($6.9 million) because of...well...Chris.

But Mexico? ($8.2)

Germany? ($7.9)

South Korea? ($7.6)

Has Hollywood reached the point where they're making fans in different countries actually compete for the most revenue?

In any event, Thor: The Dark World has made $109.4 worldwide thus far. 

I can't find what the estimated budget was on this film, so I can't say how far on its way it is...

...but I did learn something...

...IMDb has Chris Evans is listed in an "uncredited" role.

Whether this is just referring to the trailer, or an actual cameo, I have no idea.

Like I needed another reason to see this film.

Plus, I mentioned a while back that Chris O'Dowd was listed above Anthony Hopkins on the cast list.

That's since changed, but his role - listed as Richard - is still up there.

  So who knows how significant that role will be?

Oh yeah...the UK, Mexico, Australia, Brazil, South Korea and Germany!

WTF? Fridays...The 3D Edition...11/1/2013

I'm not against 3D movies in general.

I saw the first Cap film in 3D...

...and the first Thor...

...but I don't need to see films in 3D, and I have no interest in watching things in 3D at home.

So why am I forced to make a choice here?

You're limiting the "Extended/Unrated" cut of the film to the 3D Blu-ray release?

W...T...F...FOX?

I'll admit - I was equally pissed when studios put more things on the Blu-ray than the DVD...

...but I bit the bullet, and waited half a year to get stuff...like a freakin' Blu-ray player!

But 3D?

Is this the next level in home entertainment?

Maybe, because of this...

a five-minute 3D trailer of Cap 2 in theaters showing 3D Thor 2.

I'm okay with things like this in the theater, but not in my home.

Because I don't want to bite another bullet, and wait another six months to get stuff...

...like freakin' GLASSES!...

to watch something.

So - I'll stick to my gut, and get the Blu-ray/DVD combo pack.

My gut told me not to get the Indiana Jones 4-movie pack...

...and it was right!

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: The Absorbing Man Episode

Another villain enters the fold...

Why this character: I'm gonna assume all of Loki's scenes in Thor: The Dark World take place off-Midgard, but he'll plant a seed in Thor's mind...or Jane's...that he's had more time on his hands before the Chitauri invasion than we thought. Because remember - he kinda/sorta had influence on Dr. Selvig at the end of Thor, but didn't come to Earth until Avengers. This story would fill in some of those blanks.

The plot: Loki had some time on his hands while S.H.I.E.L.D. was getting Selvig set up. What to do? Observe some of the evil that men do of course! Ryker's Island would have been dull to him, but then he comes across the prison chain gangs used in other parts of the country. Convicted criminals sent out to work in the open spaces with freedom just out of reach? Loki would love that! Especially when adding a little somethin'-somethin' to the prison water would open the door for chaos. Carl Creel gets some of that water...and after learning to control his slowly developing ability to absorb the properties of the rocks he's been smashin', breaks out (with his trusty ball and chain - which shares his abilities).

Notes:

* This would bring Loki back into the picture, and Coulson would take it personally.

* After Jackson's cameo as Fury, you can't tell me Hiddleston wouldn't jump at the chance.

* Not only that, but we would learn in later episodes that other convicts took the same tainted water...

So...Loki's got a poster now...

Back in August, Adorkette and I went to the Boston Comic Con, and one of the things I learned about her is that she gravitated towards Artist Alley. She was more interested in meeting creators and looking at original stuff...

...until she saw booths selling movie posters.

She had no idea posters that big were for sale, and found one she was really on the fence about getting:

because Professor Xavier is, in her words, "my favorite mutant".

But I also knew that she had different feelings towards another character...

...who, again in her words, is "...way hotter...".

So once she realizes that this can in fact be purchased and put on a wall, she may have to rearrange her room...again.
