Transforming the Transformer - Part 3: Plan B

Let's recap...
My dream to purchase a Jeep Wrangler to 'transform' into a realistic version of Rollbar moved to the back burner when my existing vehicle requires about $1,100 in repairs. This, after just acquiring the vanity license plate ROLLBAR.
Right...
So "Plan B" became shopping for a vehicle to get us through the here-and-now, but also as the vehicle to eventually go to Adorkette. She's 16, and looking forward to Driver's Ed classes this summer.
True, this does mean the three of us will be sharing two vehicles for the next few years, but it will give us time to build credit while working towards my "Plan A".
After researching car safety reports and value data, we decided on the Hyundai Elantra as the vehicle of choice. After wheeling and dealing, we ended up with a 2010 Elantra that has about 62,300 miles on it for under $10,000...and that's with taxes, fees and all that crap included.

Sometimes, life gets in the way of our dreams. And that sucks. But dreams are awesome, and worth holding onto even when you gotta go to Plan B.

The Force is Awakening...

It's finally here.
It opens tonight...
...but I'm working tonight. Until 11:30!
But that's okay, since Mrs. Adorkification and Adorkette want to go too, we're going Friday afternoon once Adorkette's out of school. What's even cooler is that the place we're going has FIVE DIFFERENT SHOWINGS scheduled between 6:30 and 8. So...no stress, but still - that's amazing! I don't think there's ever been a single movie with this many showings in one day before.
Here's hoping it doesn't suck...

WTF? Friday...1/9/2015...Adorkette's in Like!

My daughter is fifteen. She's a high school freshman and has been having a hard time adjusting to the new routine. One of the things about her is - she's taller than the average fifteen year-old freshman. And Mrs. Adorkification has spent the past few years telling our daughter to "wait for the tall ones" when it comes to dating.
But things are different now, and today she got up the nerve to ask a boy for his email address. Which I guess is like asking a girl for her phone number back in my day.
But I'm torn. I'm glad she had the courage to ask in the first place - so good for her there...
...but we've turned a corner. From which there is. no. return.
W...T...F...?

It's Adorkette's first day of high school!

...we're still working out the bugs...

Adorkette...meet Blade Runner...

So Mrs. Adorkification and I finally got our daughter to sit down and watch a classic...
...for a good reason:
We've been watching Almost Human together, and there are a lot of visual references.
Right down to the light-up umbrellas and the Chinese Food stands.
So we got the DVD in the mail...and had a decision to make.
Because the disc had three versions on it.
The U.S.Theatrical release...
...the International Theatrical release...
...and the 1992 Director's Cut.
Being the purist that I am, we went with the original.
Then I stupidly played the Ridley Scott intro.
Why was that stupid?
Because he says...right in the intro...
that this version includes the Harrison Ford narration and the Happy Ending!
You'd think that intentionally choosing that version, you'd kind/sorta know that...
So okay, we sat down and watched...
...and watched...
...and watched...
...and we realized that this is a rather long film.
But it wasn't the length of the film that was the problem.
It was the pacing.
Not at all fast enough to keep this new fandangled "instant gratification" generation entertained.
We (finally) got to the part where Deckard is kissing Rachel in his apartment and Adorkette says "ewww..."
When Mrs. A and I ask what's wrong, she says...
...wait for it...
"He's too old for her."
Deckard's a Blade Runner.
 Getting involved with a Replicant.
An android.
And she's creeped out because of an age difference?
By the time we got to the gearing up for the final battle between Deckard and Roy, she had to get ready for bed.
And I really don't think she's gonna wanna see the rest of it.
 (sigh)
Maybe we should have picked a different version. But the problem with that was I've never seen any other version.
So I wouldn't know how they were different.
And for the record, Blade Runner is one of those rare films that Mrs. Adorkification and I equally love.
To the point where if I can buy it at a bargain, I have permission to do so.
'Course, I would have to get the box set.
I meant this one.
Oh hell, probably both.
At least she recognized Daryl Hannah from Kill Bill...

WTF? Friday...10/11/2013

Adorkette's Middle School (she's in 8th grade), is doing that one class we've all dreaded and all remember...
...the "Take a baby (doll) home and care for it" class.
But here's the interesting part - she's only got it for the weekend.
W...T...F...?
Back in my day, I had it for a week.
(Granted, mine was an egg...and I was in High School...but still...)
On the upside, her first words when she came home (after I took a picture) were: "I DON'T WANT THIS BABY!"
So, there's that...

So...Loki's got a poster now...

Back in August, Adorkette and I went to the Boston Comic Con, and one of the things I learned about her is that she gravitated towards Artist Alley. She was more interested in meeting creators and looking at original stuff...

...until she saw booths selling movie posters.

She had no idea posters that big were for sale, and found one she was really on the fence about getting:
because Professor Xavier is, in her words, "my favorite mutant".

But I also knew that she had different feelings towards another character...
...who, again in her words, is "...way hotter...".

So now there's this:
So once she realizes that this can in fact be purchased and put on a wall, she may have to rearrange her room...again.

Happy Labor Day Weekend...

Well, we've survived another Summer...

I think the family and I will hit the beach today...our first all season...now that most of the tourists have headed for home.

With the kid back at school on Tuesday (four day weekend? what's up with that?)I'll be able to get back into more comics-related stuff.

On a side-note, Adorkette and I saw Ben Affleck's first foray into the comic film genre...
...it was the Director's Cut (which is infinitely better and if not highly recommended, maybe high-er-ly so) and she said it was "Okay...but he'll be better as Batman."

We shall see little one...we shall see...

School is back in session...

It's Adorkette's first day of Eighth Grade!!!

 ...and I'm so, SO happy!

Sunday, August 25, 2013

Okay Adorkette...WTF?

So I tell my daughter that Batman (her 'favorite superhero') is going to be in the next Man of Steel movie...
"Oh yeah? Cool!", she says.
Then I tell her Ben Affleck's been cast...
"Who's Ben Afflck?", she replies.
So I Google his picture...
"Oh YEAH!", she screams.
"No, wait..." I tell her. "...you don't understand. He can't act!"
"Well...what's he been in?"
And my mind races to think of anything she's seen that I know he's been in:
Shakespeare in Love...hasn't seen it.
Jersey Girl...nope.
Good Will Hunting...uh-uh.
I was about to say "Well, we could watch Daredevil. I've got it on DVD..." when Mrs. Adorkification cuts me off -
"He can't act."
Then I actually felt bad.
"Well to be fair, I haven't seen Argo yet..."
"He can't act", she repeated.
"Now that other guy, that's been Batman..."
"Christian Bale..."
"Yeah. HE can act!"
"Well, that's true..."
"Although...he could make a descent alter-ego."
"You mean Bruce Wayne?"
"Yeah. I can see Ben in that role, but not jumping around rooftops in the suit."
Then Adorkette takes another look at the pic...
"Well...I'd see it..."
...*sigh*...

"Loki's still hotter..."

So, knowing that Adorkette is a fan of Tom Hiddleston I sat her down and made her see the trailer for Thor: The Dark World...
...and what's the first thing she says?

Today in Dork History...

...Adorkette was born...

...thriteen years ago...

...that's right. I've got a thirteen year old daughter on my hands.

Not only that - but she's a big fan of 30Rock...and The Avengers of course...

...so I'm looking at a future son-in-law somewhere between John Francis Donaghy -
and Loki -

 Aww MAN...
