Well, there's not a lot to talk about.
No comic films came out, nor any other genre of interest, but there is one film worthy of note:
Now, this isn't the first "non-Marvel" film for ChrisThorpher Hemsworth.
That would be Star Trek (2009).
And it isn't his first "post-Marvel" film either.
That would be The Cabin in the Woods (2012).
What makes Rush interesting is that on opening weekend, it made $200,000 in the states.
Yeah, you read that right, $200k.
Granted, it made significantly more internationally - over $4 million - to end the weekend respectably.
But why so low in the U.S.?
We know that Ron Howard directed it. That's been driven home in every ad...
...but did you know Olivia Wilde's in it too? Because I didn't.
Snow White and the Huntsman, Hemsworth's first film after The Avengers, made over $155 million.
The Red Dawn remake (...why?) made over $44 million, and Cabin over $42 million.
But - and here's the thing - they were all ensemble casts.
Then again, so was Ca$h (Hemsworth's least profitable film ever at less than $50,000).
I think it has more to do with the plot of the film. Very reminiscent of Tom Cruise's Days of Thunder (1990).
But my hope is that the general public doesn't share Mrs. Adorkification's opinion:
"He should always wear Viking gear."
I'm glad Disney/Marvel allows their actors to do other things.
RDJ does it. Evans, Johansson, Jackson, Ruffalo, Renner...and Hemsworth...all do it.
I just want them all to have the same level of success.
Is that so wrong?
