And a Happy Cinco de Mayo to you Pepe...

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 took the top spot to no one's surprise, with $369 million in the bank.

That's...amazing?

It made about $92 million in the States, plus $277 million from other countries thus far.

I say "thus far" because it's only been released in some countries as early as April 27th.

 I know...I know...

Of those places, the UK contributed the most, with $27.7 million.

Mexico brought in $19.4 million,

South Korea $13.8 million,

and Australia and Germany roughly $10.6 million each.

China, Brazil, France and Hong Kong are among those yet to see it. Go figure.

I gotta believe that's more a Fox Studios thing than a Marvel thing.

Anyways...

CA: TWS made an additional $7.7 this weekend 

This brings its Worldwide total to $$679.8 million,

pushing it past Thor: The Dark World to the #3 spot of all Marvel Studios' films.

I don't believe it either Stephen.

And it's all the Foreign Market, bringing in almost twice as much.

I'm sure there's a political angle/message to all that, but I'm too thick to see it.

Speaking of Worldwide totals,

ASM 2 has quite a ways to go among all Spidey films to date.

Right now, it's #5 of five, with ASM in fourth place.

Want to guess which Spidey film is #1?

Nope. It's Spider-Man 3, with $890.9 million.

Hey...blame the Foreign Market.

Monday Movie Roundup...2/3/2014

Morning everyone. How bout a three-fer, starting with numbers...

 American Hustle made another $4.3 million over the weekend, bringing the worldwide total to $176.8 million.

I, Frankenstein made a respectable $3.5 million, which puts its worldwide total just shy of $30.7 million.

The Hobbit: TDoS earned another $1.24 million to its worldwide total of $854 million,

while The Hunger Games: CF (which I'm surprised is still in theaters) made an additional $1 million.

This puts the total for this film at almost $859.6 million.

The Invisible Woman made another $170,000, bringing its Domestic total,

since it hasn't been released worldwide, to $874,000.

 And 47 Ronin made $126,000 over the weekend...which makes me sad.

However, the worldwide total broke $130 million.

So, yay I guess?

The Super Bowl was last night, and with it came some trailers...

Captain America: The Winter Soldier was the big one I was waiting for, and it didn't disappoint.

I knew Fury was in the SUV that Bucky blew up, but I was wondering how injured he'd be.

Plus, there's more Falcon, and he's awesome!

Then there was The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

It does feel like they're working towards a Sinister Six team-up for TAS-M 3, 

and I still say the guy-in-the-hat is Chameleon.

I'm surprised there wasn't a trailer for X-Men: DoFP.

If there was one, I missed it, but nothing showed up on YouTube this morning.

Now for some reaction:

Not sure how I feel about these choices.

I didn't think Amy Adams would work, and I was proven wrong.

In fact, the more I think about it I feel that of all the things I didn't like about MoS,

casting wasn't one of them.

So I'm gonna file this under 'W' for 'Wait and See'...

So I just saw this...

...it's the trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

It's okay, but not that great.

Maybe it's because I like Raimi's Spider-Man more.

Maybe it's because Sony owns the rights

 and will continue to make movies until Marvel pries the rights out of their cold dead hands.

I want to like this franchise.

Really.

But I've fallen so hard for Marvel Studios' ability to completely control how their characters appear on film

that I see everyone else's stuff fall far from the mark.

Let me sum my feelings up with a poem:

I'm not sure I'll like

I will say, he's got the face down.

Now the easier sell...

There's still no verification on who Peter Dinklage is playing in X-Men: Days of Future Past,

but I think I have an idea...

Uhh...okay...

I know enough not to judge any film by a single picture,

but I really don't know where they're going with this.

I'm going to hold all my thoughts until after I see the first one.
Which, between work and the summer movie schedule, may be a while.

Quite a bit to discuss this week...

There's casting news for the upcoming Michael Bay reboot/redux/alien-cluster...

...and I'm not sure what to say about it, except that if she's playing April O'Neil to a bunch of CGI turtles...

...she better pay f**king attention.








Speaking of casting news...

Amazing Spider-Man 2 (or whatever they're calling it) will indeed have Norman Osborn.

This is in addition to:
* Electro
* Mary Jane
* Rhino
* and possibly Black Cat.

As for who they got...

...Chris Cooper's a good choice.

I still haven't seen Amazing, and I think Willem Dafoe did a great job (it was the Green Goblin suit I disliked, but that's another day's blog).

So all in all, I may as well suck it up as watch the first film.

Stupid reboots.



Speaking of reboots...

...it's been announced that Matthew Vaughn, director of X-Men: First Class and Kick-Ass, will produce Fox's reboot of the Fantastic Four.

If Fox could take their collective head out of its a$$ for just a minute, it would set the FF and X-Men franchises...

...wait for it...

...in the same damn universe!

I still hate the idea of Marvel's characters divvied up among several production companies, but since these two groups are in the same backlot for the time being they better be produced by the same guys.

Speaking of the same guys...

...there's a new poster of RDJ as Iron Stark.

You gotta give Marvel Studios credit, the're promoting the hell out of this film. There's three or four new images of this film to Man of Steel's - what - one?

Even The Wolverine hasn't had as many things released yet, and that's coming out just over two months after IM3.

That being said, I love the fact that this film is even being made.

I can't wait to see what happens next.

Casting update on Amazing Spider-Man 2...

Okay, it's been already said that Jamie Foxx is Electro in the upcoming sequel.

Well, it seems that one villain ain't enough because another of Spidey's rogues has (supposedly) been cast:

 Aleksei Mikhailovich Sytsevich (a.k.a. Rhino).

That's not the interesting part. The interesting part is who they've chosen:

Paul Giamatti.

This is definitely a head-scratcher, but I'm not sure which is causing the bigger flakes.

This is what happens when I skip a weekend...

Okay - My weekend went very well. Mrs. Adorkification and I had a lot of fun...

But imagine my surprise when I turn on my computer and learn about things that happened over the weekend:

There's casting news about Avengers 2.

First of all - Carol Danvers/Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel is to appear. This now disproves the rumor that she was to appear in Guardians of the Galaxy. Since she is definitely an Avenger and was never a Guardian, I'm fine with this.

My issue now is who Whedon is looking at to play the part...

...Emily Blunt - who I've never seen in anything...

...and Ruth Wilson - also someone I've not seen in anything...













It's plain to see that Whedon's got a thing for brunettes.

But I think Carol Danvers needs to be played by someone we've already seen, in a role that showed her kicking a little ass...

...Yvonne Strahovski from Chuck

Now - when casting for Iron Man 2 first happened, Yvonne was my pick for Black Widow. When Scarlett Johansson was cast, Yvonne was my pick for Yelena Belova...the blonde Black Widow...

Then I heard about DC trying stuff, and thought she'd make a great Black Canary from the Birds of Prey comics, not the television series...

So - let me try this again.

BOY, WOULDN'T YVONNE STRAHOVSKI MAKE A GREAT CAROL DANVERS IN THE UPCOMING AVENGERS 2?

Ah. Mary Jane, where would Spidey be without you?

Apparently sequel-less, since she's to appear in Amazing Spider-Man 2 and may possibly be played by Shailene Woodley...who I've not seen in anything.


Am I getting too old for this?
