Monday Movie Roundup/Movie First Impressions...5/11/2015

Okay Pepe, let's talk numbers...

Avengers: Age of Ultron made another $77.2 million in the U.S.

bringing the Domestic total to just under $312.6 million.

Internationally, things are even crazier...with $562.4 million in the bank. This puts the worldwide number at almost $875 million.

Now - it's true that this film has made less in two weeks (roughly $60 million) than Marvel's The Avengers did.

And there's panic in the streets...

...but there's no question that this movie's made some cash back. 

In fact, with only two weeks under it's belt, A:AoU is less than $700 million away from beating its predecessor's worldwide numbers. 

And let's not forget - Marvel's The Avengers was in (U.S.) theaters a total of 22 weeks. Meaning it lasted through September.

So relax...it's all good!

Now, let's talk review - 

I gave you all a week. If you haven't seen it yet, but still want to remain spoiler-free (and good luck with that), stop right here.

Avengers Assembled...Again (Monday Movie Roundup...5/4/2015)

Butter it up Pepe...

A:AoU made just under $187.7 million over the weekend!

What's wrong with that? Well, it's about $19.7 million less than The Avengers' opening weekend in the States.

 And a lot of nit-pickers...

...are saying that this is the first sign of the decline of comic-themes cinema.

 

 Taking a closer look at the numbers, we can see that A:AoU made $439 million in the Foreign Market.

Granted - I'm not sure if that number is just for the weekend or month-to-date, but still...damn!

They threw down.

As of this morning, the film's worldwide total is $626.6 million. That's well above the $250 million price tag, and is a mere $900 million from The Avengers' closing total...after 22 weeks in U. S. theaters. We're in Week 1 right now.

So, will A:AoU beat The Avengers? Who cares.

The worldwide total of all of their films is $7.78 billion right now...and it ain't gonna go down!

Movie First Impression: Avengers: Age of Ultron (WTF? Friday...5/1/2015)

So THAT happened...

Just to let you know - this is as SPOILER FREE a review as possible for me. 

You've been warned.

How funny was this..?

How funny was it?

Tears. Seriously.

"Yelling at the screen" would be my guess for the first one, "Shakespearean stage actor" for the second, and "Metropolis" for the third. 

Can I just add - how cool would it be to see something like this at SDCC 2016? With Cavill, Affleck, Gadot and the others versus these guys? RDJ would still own it.

I just wish I knew what the other answers were. 

More Avengers: AoU details...

So there's a bunch of stuff out about the film. Who's playing whom, which characters are cameoed (is that even a word?) and such. 

I really don't want to know. I'm trying real hard to stay in the dark. 

I wanna be surprised when I get to the theater with my popcorn, twizzlers and coke.

Which reminds me - I need to look for midnite showings...or 8PM showings...or whatever, 'cause you know I'm seeing it at least twice.

But without looking things up, here are my guesses:

* Each character goes back into their pasts - for some such reason - which is why we see Natasha in the Red Room and Steve in the 1940's.

* Tony and Bruce fight, but no one wins.

* Klaw finds the Vibranium mine...and comes across that female shown in the trailers.

* There will be something - either in Daredevil or A:AoU - that connects the two.

* There will be something - either in AoS or A:AoU - that connects the two.

* There will be something - either in Ant-Man or A:AoU - that connects the two.

And most importantly...

* All the heroes are going to lose something, or someone, of importance in a very depressingly "dark" manner in order to piss everyone off just enough to see what comes next.

Oh - and Happy Easter everyone!

Dream Sequences in Age of Ultron?

According to this article from The Mary Sue, Scarlet Witch uses her powers to show each Avenger their greatest fear...which explains a couple of things.

1) The Hulk/Hulkbuster fight. Wanda sneaks up on Bruce and does her whammy, resulting in the battle dorks like me have been waiting decades to see.

2) This scene from the trailer with Cap back in the '40's. It also explains how Peggy can appear in this film.

3) The Black Widow/Red Room/Ballet scene also from the trailer.

4) Finally, it explains the broken shield. This is Thor's greatest fear, as seen from inside his head...not reality.

This all makes sense. How else can vital and essential backstory happen in a blockbuster film without the necessary flashbacks?

WTF? Friday...The Avengers 2 Trailer 3 Edition...3/6/2015

Less than 2 days old, and this has over 5 million views.

Moving on...

We all expect there to be two end-credit scenes, where the final one...

...will probably involve this guy.

My WTF? for today involves the other one - the one they'll show first.

I expect it to be Vision opening his eyes.

As in, the final scene shown here. And why do I believe that?

Because he's been teased...

...and teased...

 ...and teased...for MONTHS!

W...T...F...?

This is what the teaser should be about,

we even see Klaw in the trailers.

But these guys are getting really good at the ol' "bait-and-switch". We get Bucky as Winter Soldier, but all he does is kick Cap's ass. We get a S.H.I.E.L.D. show, with COULSON, and all they do is get betrayed by their organization (and now more members of the team, but that's for another rant). We're getting Spider-Man back into the fold...sort of. 

 Know what I mean?

So yeah, we'll see Paul Bettany as Vision...for all of like 12 and a half seconds.
