WTF? Fridays...5/10/2013

Today, it's about things I love...

While I'm not a fan of country music in general, I love watching people do what they love doing...and doing it very well. This is a video form the late '90's and features like twelve musicians playing an Earl Scuggs bluegrass classic...like...with Earl Scruggs. And yes - that is Paul Schaefer and Steve Martin.

Then there's classic Disney characters gearing up for battle anime style...

I had to watch these like five times each. Kept getting distracted by all the stuff happening around them.

And I've got questions...
Why are the women just standing by while Wonder Woman fights?
Where exactly are these fights taking place (other than Paradise Island)?
How can you know which of the things around you can be grabbed/pulled/thrown/hit?
...and most importantly...
Will there be a Marvel Ultimate Alliance/Injustice combo pack?

Then there's the new Kick-Ass 2 trailer:

It's Red-Banned, so you'll need to verify your age, and it is definitely worthy of the age-restriction...
...but it's soooo good.

My wife and I made the mistake of watching Kick-Ass for the first time with Adorkette. It was more gruesome than I expected, and after watching this trailer, I have no intention of letting her see K-A2 until after I do.

I haven't read the books, but understand the message behind this universe. It's a very realistic approach to what could and would happen once "super-heroes" start popping up in the real world. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

Still gonna watch it though...August 16th...

WTF? Fridays...3/15/2013

I want to start off by apologizing for my lack of meat in my recent posts...I've been back-and-forth to NH for work-related stuff this week and it sucked.

Now let's see what's been going on in the world:

Bryan Singer has been quoted that he's bringing some "science-fiction aspects" to X-Men: Days of Future Past.
...
That's like Whedon saying he's going to bring "action" to Avengers.
But I will say this - Singer is the Whedon of the X-Men Movie Universe.
In fact, I'd call him a fine blend of both Whedon and Chris Claremont. He's able to gather all this talent, and all these characters, and make the story work.
I'd still prefer the XMU under the Marvel Studios banner, but if it were, I'm sure Feige would have Singer in the director's chair.

Injustice: Gods Among Us has introduced a new Blackest Night DLC pack - heroes (and villains) playable in Zombie form. This is awesome. The trailer above is from Germany so the text is weird, but you can get the gist.

Speaking of Injustice...

...Doomsday (and Raven) are going to be playable. Can you imagine what Doomsday in Zombie-Mode would look like?

And finally,
I saw John Carter From Mars recently with the wife and kid - and we liked it.

I couldn't understand the...I don't want to say hatred...but the complete lack of interest in this film.

The CGI worked, the characters were well rounded, Dejah wasn't an empty-headed sex-pot, and the story was well told.

I think the film got a bad rap. It's possible Disney did some stuff to make it look worse (so they could get a better deal with Marvel, 'cause remember: this came out just before the deal was made).

Anyway...

If you haven't seen this movie yet, do yourself a favor and watch it. I can't see myself reading the books due to the language of when they were written, but it did make me go back and re-read Alan Moore's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Vol. II.

WTF? Friday...2/8/13

Let's get to it...

So...Snowstorm "Whatever" is headed our way.
(In fact, I woke up just past 3 this morning to find that it's already here.)
Naturally, I have to work this morning, and while I don't mind driving in it, I'm more concerned about shoveling the driveway when I get back, and the other drivers.
When I heard customers yesterday complaining about the grocery store lines for things like water, I think to myself two things: 1) The storm will be over by Sunday. 2) Water? If you look outside...at the snow...and were reeeally desperate...you could take some of that ever-falling stuff...and bring it inside...and let it melt. Then I look back at #1 and shake my head.

They've got a website and a facebook page, There's also still time to vote on the first two battles they're waging:

It's really cool, so go and vote...

It seems that J. J. Abrams' upcoming Star Wars film will be a "stand alone" film...

I'm not sure if that means of a "one-shot" in comics terms, or if it will be the beginning of a separate film franchise, like Guardians of the Galaxy.

...and it will focus on Yoda.

When I heard this, my first question was if it would be a backstory from his youth to Phantom Menace? Or would it bridge the gap between Revenge of the Sith and The Empire Strikes Back - explaining how he ends up on Dagobah. The latter being the better story.

Mrs. Adorkification's first question? "Will he be puppet or digital?"

Good question hon.

There's been talk of Marvel Studios' Phase Two and Phase Three storylines, and I'm fresh out of time and energy right now to do it any justice.

I will go on record saying that they need to bring Mark Ruffalo back.

I don't care how.

I also think that one of Hawkeye's best traits is that in the comics he is (or was back when I read them) 90% deaf, and that should happen in the films too.

More on this in the future...after I dig my way home this weekend.

My videogame experience...

I'm not big on home video games.

When I was a kid I wanted to live in the arcade and thought Tron was the best movie ever, but between Atari, Colecovision, Nintendo, Donkey Kong, Pokemon and the rest, I lost interest.

In fact, I bought my first system...an original Playstation...when I was working at Toys R' Us . It was used, and cost me $20. The one game I bought for it?

Now, I admit that I played the hell out of it and still do occasionally...on my most recent purchase: a PS2.

With this machine, I'm the proud owner of two games...

and...

MUA is a fantastic game, but I bought it first - so X-Men Legends II was kind of a let down since it came out first: the graphics weren't as good and the play of the game was too similar.

Why am I mentioning this? Because even though I still haven't seen Arrow, I saw this...

Looks like I need to save some money...
