Whedon responds to what I said yesterday...

...well, actually, he responds to what a lot of people have been saying...in an interview with Comic Book Resources.
You can read the article, but in a nutshell he and Maurissa Tancharoen say that they hear what we're saying,
but are telling us to "just wait...it gets better!"
Now, I can already tell that it is getting better, because now the team has to be a team to get back the one guy that matters...
And we'll learn about what happened in "Tahiti".
BUT...if they pull a Lost and (a show I've never seen, because they) answer one question and ask three more...
I'm done.
I want Marvel characters meeting/greeting/beating other Marvel characters
without having to wait until 2015 for Netflix to get in the mix.
That's all I'm saying...

Nathan Fillion...and Batman?

There's been talk of Fillion joining Henry Cavill in the next DCMU film...
...and that's just wrong.
Because it's obvious who Fillion should be:
Now - if we eliminate the remote possibility that Whedon connects the MMU to Fillion's current project...
...as well as the chance we'll ever see The Greatest Super Hero Team Ever on the silver screen...
...you can not...
...CAN NOT mind you...
...dismiss the probability that Whedon will get Fillion to cameo on his show...
...because both shows are on...
...which is owned by...
...and who doesn't love it when things come full circle?

So now there's talk of who's in the trailer...

I've mentioned before that I didn't think it was Luke Cage in the trailers, and it seems many agree.

So here's the newest rumor...
 ...Rage.

I don't remember much about him, because he was introduced roughly a year before I stopped collecting, but he did first appear in The Avengers # 326 and was basically a twelve year old kid who (thanks to toxic waste) had the body of a twenty something bodybuilder. I do recall a huge backlash for the character at the time though, even after he was inducted to the Avengers.

My hope is that if Joss is using this character, and my money is that he is, Elvin Daryl Haliday will be better represented. Because...

Holy Crap!

Let me say first that as I write this, I own ten Blu-rays: Ocean's Eleven, LegendYoung Frankenstein, Octopussy, Sin City...and all five of Marvel Studios' "Phase One" films.

I was a huge fan of Quantum Leap, and MacGyver ...which aired when I was in high school.

I'm also a fan of ST:TNG and Firefly of course, which I have on DVD, and yes - they're on my "upgrade" list - but I came late to the party for both, and Blogging didn't exist back then...

...but I'm telling you right now that I've already started saving up to get Season One of this show when it comes out.

I also want to apologize, in advance, for being among the many MANY bloggers who will give detailed info about each and every episode. Seriously though, I may give a "First Impression"-type review on the fly, but I am planning full-on, research-enhanced, knowledgeable and detail-enriched reviews of this show...after I get the BR.

This is my Star Trek...

...my Buffy...

...and my Firefly.

Fair warning...

Well...it's official...

...we have confirmation that Avengers 2 will in fact feature these twins.

I'm disappointed that my first choice...Aurora and Northstar...didn't make the cut, but I'll take these two with a smile on my face.

By the way, these two both started out as villains, so don't be surprised to see that in the film.

Now...if we can just get confirmation of another sort -

WTF? Friday...8/31/12

Here we go...

As you know, we here at the House of Adorkification have upgraded our decks to 80 cards each...between you and me, I don't like it.

Not only do I need to buy more cards now, I have to look into buying larger boxes to hold the cards!

Is it possible to play an 80 card deck with a 60 card deck? And win?

There's been more BTS and Out-take clips from Avengers making it onto the web...only to be taken down again.

W...T...F?...

I haven't seen any of them, because I'm waiting for the Blu-ray.

If I'm going to see long takes of Cap acclimating to modern times, Agent Hill bitching about the team or all the actors cracking up and having fun, I'm gonna do it at my leisure...repeatedly...without worrying about how much time I have before they disappear.

If you haven't heard, Robert Downey Jr. sprained an ankle on the set of IM3.

My first thought was "oh my gosh, I hope he's okay", followed by "will this change the release date?", and then "does this mean he's getting too old for this role?"

My panic subsided when I thought about The Expendables, Sylvester Stallone is 66 right now...after two Expendables films. Sure, he's been damaged a bit (at least during the making of the first one) but he keeps going. RDJ will do the same. I've said before that he won't be Tony Stark forever...just as Sean Connery couldn't be Bond forever...and I'm okay with that. And while I don't want to see him leave the role anytime soon, I would prefer he left the role earlier if it kept him from continual harm.

So to Mr. RDJ let me say: Thank you for your hard work, but take care of yourself.

And this week's WTFN? award goes to...

        &

and don't forget...

Guess what? They're making a series...for television...about S.H.I.E.L.D....and Joss is involved.

I can't freakn' wait!!!

Firefly – The Series (2002)

Synopsis: Sometime in the future, humans colonize other galaxies. Space travel is commonplace. The ruling (Empire) government is The Alliance, and (Rebels) Browncoats fight for independence…and lose. Former Browncoat Sergeant (Han Solo) Malcom Reynolds thumbs his nose at The Alliance by captaining Serenity, a Firefly-class vessel known for salvaging and looting Alliance property. Along for the ride are his First Officer Zoe, pilot Wash, engineer Kaylee, hired gun Jayne and companion Inara. New to the crew are Shepherd Book, Doctor Simon Tam and his sister River. All three have secrets in their past that involve The Alliance. Come to think of it – everyone on Serenity has a skeleton or two in their closets…except maybe Kaylee. The series revolves around Reynolds and his crew dealing with The Alliance and other unsavory types of scoundrel that exist throughout the ‘verse.

Comments: I’m not a huge Joss Whedon fan. I never liked Dollhouse, thought Dr. Horrible was okay, couldn’t get into Angel and thought the Buffy movie was better than the series.

Needless to say, I’m in the minority.

My wife discovered it first. She grew up watching John Wayne westerns with her dad, and she fell in love with it. She described it to me as a “Space Western”, and my mind went to some lame-ass 80’s cartoon I remember seeing that had sheriffs riding space horses. I gave it a try, and am now squarely on the Whedon bandwagon.

This show had nine characters, ten if you count the ship – which Whedon did – and they all worked. Every one of them was fully developed, with rich backstory, despite having clichéd stereotypes: The Captain, The First Officer, The Hired Gun, The Engineer, The Pilot, The Doctor, The Counselor, The Priest and The Patient.

Whedon turned those clichés on their ears. The Captain had a fire in his eyes that went out after losing the war, and was slowly getting it back. The First Officer – a woman by the way – was married to The Pilot, who ran away from a fight when he had a choice. The Hired Gun couldn’t be trusted. The Engineer was a naive young woman who had never been in space before. The Counselor was a highly respected prostitute. The Priest used to be high ranking Alliance officer, and The Doctor was wanted by The Alliance for breaking his sister, The Patient, out of a mental hospital.

What amazed me most is how well the cast got along. They felt like a family…the way the cast of ST:TNG did after seven years together…only these people were together seven months.

And the cinematography!

The constant zooming in and out of focus, the ‘realistic’ look, and the total lack of sound in space!

Did you see the latest Star Trek movie? Did you love the shaky cam work? The flares made by all the lights and the realistic grit under The Federation’s fingernails? How Kirk, Spock and the rest were not nicey-nice all the time?

That all worked because Joss did them first…on this show.

It’s a tragedy that the series lasted 14 episodes, and only 11 even aired!

Adorkable Moment: Joss Whedon is, hands down, the best writer of women characters. He should have been allowed to make his Wonder Woman movie by D.C./Warner Brothers, but was denied. Marvel smartened up and signed him on to do the Avengers movie - an ensemble cast of fully-developed male and female characters. I can’t wait.
