Puck Part 25: Alpha Flight #30 (January, 1986)

Puck gets acquainted to his new digs and faces a new enemy.

I have this issue.

Judd helps his fellow Alphans move into their new headquarters – Walter Langkowski’s Great-Aunt’s mansion on Tamarind Island. After settling in, Judd wakes in the middle of the night to find Heather’s taken the Omniship. The team follows her to Montreal General Hospital, where they find everyone turned into misshapen monsters. Judd learns that Madison’s brother Lionel has the ability to reshape biological matter, and was locked up at the hospital in a padded cell. They find Heather in the open cell…deformed like the others. Judd chooses to stay with her, while Box, Jefferies, Aurora and Northstar go after Lionel, now calling himself Scramble. Scramble is found, defeated and apparently cured, and returns everyone back to normal, including Heather.

Notes of Interest:
1) Judd’s not altogether trusting of the new arrangement Alpha has with the Canadian Government, and he doesn’t trust Gary either.

2) It’s hinted here that Judd has endured so much pain from his dwarfism that at some point his sanity was at risk.

WTF? Moment: The fact that Judd stays with Heather speaks volumes. He drops everything else and holds her, telling her she’s still beautiful and that she’ll be alright. What makes it a WTF? Moment is…

WTF? Moment #2: …Heather doesn’t mention it at all later on. She recoils when Lionel touches her face, which is to be expected, but no “Thank You” or “I appreciate you staying with me” or anything? I call bulls#!+ on that. Judd even tells her it wasn’t her fault Scramble got free because eventually someone would have become a victim. I’m beginning to think he’s too good for her.
