One Big General WTF? (WTF? Friday...3/18/2016)

This sums up my week.

First, I need to apologize for not posting my Monday Movie Roundup for this week. I started it, gathered my stats, organized my thoughts...somewhat...and set it aside to add images later. Things happened, work happened, and I realized Wednesday that I never got back to it.

So what happened? Well...you know that car we got? The 'Transforming the Transformer Plan B' car? I took it to work Monday, left it in the parking lot, and came out after closing to find a police officer's card sticking out of the door. Someone had backed into my parked car.

The Good: the guilty party had in fact called the police and left info. The Bad: said officer went off-duty at 2 am, and wouldn't be back until today. So I spent the week getting an estimate (about $2,000) and surviving the week.
All well and good...until yesterday. Aaand what happened yesterday?
Crapped...out...
W...T...F...?

Well...
...at least Season 2 is out.
Mrs. Adorkification and I have seen Episode 1, and it was AWESOME. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to talk to a cop about a car...

There are two kinds of people...

After fully enjoying our newly installed washing machine, I've come to the conclusion that there are two types of people:
*Those who pick up laundry that fall in the transition from washer to dryer at that moment,
*and those who wait until they're finished moving the load, and then pick stuff up.
If you've ever done laundry yourself, you know what I'm talking about. And while I fall squarely in with the former crowd, I'm working on becoming a member of the latter.

Today's the day...

...our new washing machine arrives!
This is news. Really. It's been roughly six months living without one, so I've been taking our stuff to the local laundromat on every possible day off. Never mind the costs of the machines (and gas), but the "local" place is roughly 25 minutes away - so there's significant time lost too. (Did I mention I've had to go on my days off?)
We got a good deal because I bought our "high efficiency, tier three energy-saver" appliance during their July 4th sale (when most appliances are marked down...which I didn't know at the time, but will remember from now on). The problem? Because of the holiday, the regularly scheduled delivery day (Tuesday) was shifted to Thursday for last week. Okay, fine. They signed me up, and I was fully prepared to stay at home on a gorgeous Thursday with Adorkette for "old removal/new installation" day.
But when 4:00 rolled around without any sign of anything, I called to inquire. Not only did they tell me that someone from my "household" call them to change the date (which was bulls#!t), they also told me that it was changed to Tuesday July 15th. A day when I'm at work and can't get home until the afternoon.
So, Adorkette now knows what to do and what to look for, and Mrs. Adorkification will be around to sign the paperwork. Is it a pain? Absolutely. Is it worth not having to go out to do laundry every four days? You're goddamn RIGHT it is.
I just wanted to see it happen. Not only to witness the end of a day-long errand, but also to witness the first major appliance upgrade put in our house in the last five years.
That is...unless someone from our "household" changes the date again...bastards.

The power of family...

I was at work yesterday when Mrs. Adorkification called to tell me that both she and Adorkette were fine, but for some as-yet-to-be-determined reason our basement had flooded.

Good News: the part of the basement where my DVD's, Blu-rays, Blu-ray player, television...all the electrical stuff...was fine.

Bad News: My comics (roughly thirty years worth) were not so lucky.

I had to spend the remaining five hours of my shift trying to cope with the news, going through the stages from anger to acceptance.

When I finally got home, I learned that not only did my dynamic duo deal with most of the water (there was roughly an inch or two left at the farthest corner - thank God for uneven basement floors), but Adorkette single-handedly moved all of my comic boxes out of harms way.

See, Mrs. Adorkification has arthritic knees, so going up and down stairs is painful at the best of times. Adorkette spent Sunday afternoon going up and down the stairs with buckets and towels while my wife emptied them and wrung things out.

But according to Mrs. A, the first thing Adorkette thought of at the time...was my comics.

Naturally, I have to go back to work this morning, but I have Tuesday off so I can help with drying out our washer, dryer and oil burner.

But my lesson of the day is this -

Never underestimate the POWER of family.

I think the kid will stay home from school today. She's earned it. And then some.

An appliance update....

We pulled our leaking dishwasher away from the wall - no small feat with the hard wiring and hoses - and found the leak coming from the right side of the machine.

Which is where the hose carrying the "dirty" water runs from the machine to the sink drain.

We disconnected said hose and tested it for leakage...but it's fine.

Mrs. Adorkification and Adorkette believe it has something to do with said hose not being mounted high enough, which is a valid reason, but we learned that one of our duel kitchen sinks is also leaking.

As a result, we've agreed to call a professional...as soon as we can afford one.

In the meantime, we'll be hand-washing a lot - which takes me back to when Mrs. Adorkification and I first moved in together.

She cooked, I cleaned.

But at least this time we've got some help.

Thanks, Adorkette!

I'll be back to my usual adorkification tomorrow.

GO PATS!!!

You know what sucks...

...Leaky dishwashers!
We've got one.

Good news: The puddle is relatively small.
Bad news: The puddle is relatively small.

So my day will be spent taking said contraption apart (after cutting power and water of course) and seeing a) where the leak is coming from, and b) if it's something we can fix ourselves.

When it comes to things like this, Mrs. Adorkification does the research...and the planning...pretty much everything involved with thought.

I'm the do-er, meaning I'm the one taking out the tools, taking things apart, and making sure it can all fit back together again...after the repeated trips to Home Depot and/or Lowes.

I'm okay with our arrangement, since she has never blamed or criticized me if said contraption fails to work ever again. She sees these adventures as "team events" and I'm thankful for that.
