Monday Movie Roundup...8/31/2015

Morning Pepe!

To my admitted surprise, Ant-Man stayed in the U.S. top 10 over the weekend with another $3 million. It's just shy of $365.7 million worldwide, and only needs roughly $5 million more to take the MCU's #10 spot away from Captain America: The First Avenger.
Well done Paul!

As for Fant4stic...
It made another $1.7 million over here, and is at $146.1 million worldwide. Interestingly, it's only $10 million away from beating Green Lantern's Foreign Gross with $93.5 million in against GL's $103.25 million.
Yeah, I don't get it either...

Have a good week all!

This time, it's personal (WTF? Friday...8/28/2015)

I've mentioned in the past how work has changed recently, but I'm not young anymore so I'll repeat myself.
I work in retail, and my boss and boss' boss have known each other for at least 20 years before I started working there...which made me feel like the third wheel on a motorcycle.
Now set the WABAC machine on fast-forward...
Less than a month ago, my boss was reassigned to another store, and my boss' boss retired - resulting in a new boss and boss' boss.
You'd think so Hugh, wouldn't you?
Now I'm not saying things are worse...and I can't say for sure things are better. But they sure as hell are different.
And I'm not a big fan of change.
Changes in dynamics, shifts in power, adjustments and "fine-tunings". They stress me right the f**k out.
Like...seriously.
But see - that's just from the work side of life. Here at home, we've been hit with another whammy:
Mrs. Adorkification lost her job.
W...T...F...?
No, she didn't really lose her job...it's just that when she goes there, there's another person doing it.
Well, not really...
She was let go due to 'lack of work'. So she's in the process of filing for unemployment and stuff, which is good.
But she's also a maker.
No...not a Fixer...a Maker.
She sews, and beads, and has taught herself e-textiles (the art of using LED's and microcircuitry in clothing and jewelry). She's made some stuff, sold some stuff, and is in the process of making more stuff to sell.

Yeah. That gets a HUGE thumbs up.
But money's still (and let's face it - will always be) an issue.
Have I mentioned how much I HATE change?

But here's proof of the benefits of a long-lasting and loving relationship:
I'm not sure you know this, but I've got a bunch of comics.
Not a fortune's worth, but a lifetime's worth.
And I've been thinking about selling some (along with other stuff around the house) to help out. My concern (read: fear) was that Mrs. Adorkification would use said funds to pay bills, whereas I was hoping (read: selfishly praying) that the money that came in would be for me...and keep me from using our reduced income for things like music, Blu-rays and the occasional book.
I'm not proud of thinking that, and I never said I was perfect, but let me continue...
When I finally got up the nerve to discuss the financial expectations of any and all Paypal/eBay transactions, Mrs. Adorkification said outright: "I figured whatever you got from your stuff would be yours."
I'm sorry...what was that?
But then she said: "I figured you would use that money on your hobbies."
THEN the lightbulb flicked on.
We decided, together mind you, that whatever monies came from selling stuff - all stuff - would be split. I'd get some for my hobbies, but she'd get the larger share to buy e-textile/maker supplies...beads, thread, batteries, that type of stuff.
That made us both feel better.
I'll admit that some of you reading this may have come to this solution faster than we did, but that's not the point.
The point is:

'Nuff said.

Monday Movie Roundup...8/24/2015

'ello Pepe!

Believe it or not, Fant4stic stayed in the Top 10, making another $3.65 million here...
I KNOW!!!
It's at $130.4 million worldwide right now. That still puts it behind Green Lantern, but by less than $90 million.

Ant-Man made another $4 million in the U.S. and is now $361 million worldwide,
officially becoming Michael Douglas' top grossing film (using worldwide numbers) of his entire career!
 You said it Jean-Luc...
...and it's only $9.4 million away from CA: TFA, which would give it a place in the MCU's Top 10.

As for DC's Cinematic Universe,
wasn't Ezra Miller supposed to be in this?
Have a good week everyone!

WHAT happened Monday? (WTF Friday?...8/21/2015)

One of my (admittedly many) complaints about Summer is that Adorkette claims any available form of technology for her own. Not just Hulu or Netflix, but complete access to the interwebs.
So I had no idea Yvonne Craig passed away.
W...T...F...?
Naturally, I remember her as Batgirl. I looked forward to seeing that cycle race across the screen.
Course, I was too young at the time to understand why I was looking forward to seeing that cycle race across the screen, but whatever...
Now that I think about it, Ms. Craig could be considered one of the first female cosplayers, even as Barbara Gordon.
When I die and go to that big Comicon in the sky, I'll be waiting in line with all the other nerdy geeks to get the chance to meet her and (most probably) get a picture with her...then go back in line to get it autographed - twice. Once as Yvonne, the second as Barbara/Batgirl.

How'd Fant4stic do?..Part Two (Monday Movie Roundup...8/17/2015)

Morning Pepe. Let's start with the basics:
In the U.S., Fant4stic made another $8 million over the weekend, bringing the total Domestic gross to just under $42 million. As for the Foreign total, it's $60.1 million. This makes the worldwide total about $102 million, after 10 days in theaters. But is it a "flop"?
Let's discuss, by comparing it to another famous "flop"...
After two weeks in theaters, Green Lantern (a flop by all accounts - even the actors) made almost $89 million in the States, which is more than double Fant4stic's numbers. Okay, fine. But everywhere else, GL made $33.2 million...which is almost half of Fant4stic's Foreign totals.
Just goes to show that money is a tricky thing.
Speaking of money,
Ant-Man made another $5.5 million here, and is at $336.4 million worldwide.
(Which is more that GL made in it's entire run.)

It beat Real Steel and is sitting pretty as Evangeline Lilly's third top grossing film,
it's about $50 million away from beating Monsters Vs. Aliens and becoming Paul Rudd's #1,
and is less than $20 million away from beating Basic Instinct, which makes me wonder what would have happened if they cast Sharon Stone as Janet Van Dyne...

Then there's this gem with Superman and the Lone Ranger.
I've never seen the show, but it's been on my 'to do' list forever. This film's on the same list. It made $13.5 million opening weekend. It hasn't been released beyond the States yet, but I have a feeling it will do better outside the U.S.
Speaking of spy films...
November 6th baby...November 6th...

Have a good week all!
