I guess it's official...

Peter Capaldi is the New Doctor...

W...T...F...?

I don't have a problem Capaldi, my problem is with the casting direction they took. 

I always saw The Doctor aging backwards, either just a Doctor thing or something all Gallifreyans did.

Guess that's not how Moffat wants to play it.

But - given that Moffat wasn't concerned about it, I still would have chosen someone else:

James Nesbitt of Jekyll fame.

Just look at those eyes. Tell me there's nothing fantastic or clever going on there.

Let's talk about a Lex Rumor...

I've already made my casting choice for this role, which must...at all costs...appear in Man of Steel 2 Superman vs. Batman -

- but there's a rumor that another bald-ish actor may be/has been approached for the role:

Bryan Cranston from Breaking Bad and (for me) From the Earth to the Moon and Malcolm in the Middle.

Now, I haven't seen a single episode of BrBa, but my wife has...all of them...so if she's any judge of acting ability Cranston's got the "likable bad guy"-thing down.

Me? All I'd see is the hairy guy standing behind a newspaper while his wife trims him...in the kitchen no less.

Either that or Buzz Aldrin offering a prayer while in the landing module...but this?

I'm not so sure...

I had a Vision...

There's been all this talk about how Vin Diesel will be playing Vision in the upcoming Avengers:Age of Ultron, but as I perused my Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe last night (as I do most nights before passing out) something caught my attention:

We now know (post SDCC) that Guardians of the Galaxy will feature Gamora and Nebula...and Drax the Destroyer.

Wouldn't it have been better to cast Diesel as Drax?

Am I the only one who has a problem with him as Vision, but could totally see him as Drax?

Just sayin'...

Casting Call...Tony Stark

There's been talk of RDJ no longer assuming the role, or only returning for future Avengers sequels.

Honestly, I hope he returns. Even if it's just in Avengers 2 and 3. But let's face it - he will eventually be replaced.

What I'm doing here is listing my Top Five actors who I think could do the character justice going forward.

Here's my criteria...
1) The actor is playing Tony Stark, not RDJ playing Tony Stark.

2) I'm assuming that Marvel Studios is going the James Bond route...meaning there's no time-travel/alternate universe/clone/LMD stuff. Just a new actor continuing the role in the same universe that's happening now.

3) American actors only. Why? Because over at Warner Brothers they had Christian Bale as Batman and Gary Oldman as Gordon, and now Henry Cavill is Superman...all British actors. So they've got that market.

4) And of course, they can't be playing an existing MMU character...meaning no Sebastian Stan or Clark Gregg.

Here we go...

5) Johnny Depp

He's got the charm, charisma and draw that RDJ has.

So why is he #5?

Because he's roughly the same age as RDJ, and I honestly think that Tony Stark is too "mainstream" a role for him.

I can totally see him somewhere within the MMU, like a villain or something, but as Tony?

You have to admit though - he's got the look.

#4) Joaquin Phoenix

This actor has a history, much like RDJ.

So why is he #4?

The suit.

I just can't see him in the suit.

To be fair, I never thought RDJ would make it work either.

#3) Shia LaBeouf

Forget Transformers...just get it out of your heads right now...and maybe Crystal Skull while you're at it...

...but as an actor, I can see this guy pulling off the wit and mechanic savvy of the role while actually in the suit.

So why is he #3?

Three words: Transformers and Crystal Skull.

Then again, does anyone remember Air America?

#2) Jensen Ackles

I've never seen a single episode of Supernatural, but even I know that show's been on too long. Give it a rest already!

If you've never seen Ten Inch Hero, do so. This guy is funny, charming, and could totally handle the whole "I'm gonna do what I think is right even if S.H.I.E.L.D., Cap and Rhodey think I'm nuts" mentality.

And yeah, he could handle the suit.

So why is he #2?

Because #1 would be an idiot to turn it down...

#1) Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Can I just say that if you put the 'stach and 'tee on this pic, you'd have Tony Stark?

Not only that, but with JGL replacing RDJ Marvel Studios would be opening the door to the next generation of great actors to play their characters.

I can even see Shia playing Banner to JGL's Stark.

I know what you're thinking..."What about the next Batman film?"

Well, by the time DC and WB got their s#!t together to cast it, JGL'll be in the middle of making Iron Man 6! 'Nuff Said!

Honorable Mention...

Sean Faris

Don't know who this guy is, and I haven't seen a thing he's done.

He does make the look work though...




In Marvel Studios I Trust

Casting Call: Magik

Illyana Rasputin is a wonderful character that I remember from The New Mutants way back when.

She's Colossus' younger sister, and Kitty Pryde's best friend.

She is a mutant, but everything beyond that is whacked-up and sideways.

Her born ability is teleportation, but unlike Nightcrawler, her ability works in two steps. First she teleports to a place known as Limbo, and from there goes on to her final destination.

But Limbo isn't just a place of nothing - it's full of creatures easily described as "demons".

Belasco, the ruler of Limbo, sensed the power within Illyana and basically kidnapped her into Limbo to train her as an apprentice in the mystical arts of the realm.

By the way - Belasco took her when she was a child, around 10 or so.

She spent the next 7 years in Limbo living among Belasco and the creatures before eventually returning to Earth-616...only to learn that time moved differently in Limbo, and the teenager Illyana had only been gone for less than a year.

She ended up ruler of Limbo, but her time there corrupted part of her soul.

As a New Mutant, she worked on gaining control of her demonic side and control over her teleportation ability (which can move her through time as well as space) with the use of her Soulsword - the manifestation of her magical strength that appears when she needs it (along with armor, but that's another story).

Now, there's a show Mrs. Adorkification and I have been watching on Netflix recently called Lost Girl...

...about a succubus trying to find her way between the worlds of humans and fae - which is what they call everything from vampires to demons to will-o-the-wisps to leprechauns etc.

Bo is the main character - the succubus - but her partner/sidekick/human is Kenzi (the woman second from the right in the pic above), basically a gypsy/thief of Russian descent that winds up with Bo, played by Ksenia Solo.

Now, you could pick any episode you want to prove my point, but it was the Baba Yaga episode from Season 2 that clinched it for me. You may recognize Solo from an episode of Nikita, or her part in Natalie Portman's Black Swan, but Solo would be an excellent Ilyanna.

Of course, now we'd have to talk about how Magik would appear on screen.

Assuming that The New Mutants are among the characters FOX has snatched up for the forseeable future, my hope is that she'll appear in the X-Men: Days of Future Past sequel as the full-on Darkchylde version, before appearing at the end as a young girl.

I would love for the New Mutants to be their own spin-off franchise, but it would have to be the originals, Cannonball, Sunspot, Wolfsbane, Karma and Mirage...with Magik joining later....

...played by Solo, of course.

Casting Call - Elektra

There’s been talk in forums about Jennifer Garner’s performance in the movie, and reviews/opinions about the movie itself. This isn’t about that.

This is about who we, as readers and fans, imagine in our heads to be the best Elektra as we read the books.

Here’s what I mean:
I am a huge fan of the character when Frank Miller created her, and have every appearance she was in until she came back from the dead (the first time). Because of this, I’m not influenced by Greg Horn’s covers. So when I read those issues of Daredevil, Bizarre Adventures and even What If?, I picture Melina Kanakaredes. She’s Greek, statuesque, and looks like she could pull off the moves and be the character.

In reality, I don’t think she’d ever play the role, and I don’t think casting agents would ever offer the role to her, but she’s Elektra to me.

Casting Call: Ava Lord – A Dame to Kill For

I recently finished my first reading of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, and knew going in that Rodriguez and Miller were planning to put it in the second Sin City movie. There’s been a lot of speculation about who would play the title character - Ava. Angelina Jolie’s name was kicked around for a while, but as far as I know casting hasn’t been made official yet. So here at Adorkification, I give you another name to throw into the hat:

I know what some people might say, but let’s look at this character for a minute. Ava’s a beautiful, manipulative beyotch who uses her looks to drive men to commit adultery, murder and suicide. This isn’t a dig about Megan’s personality; all I’m saying is that Ava Lord is definitely within Megan’s acting range based on what she’s been in so far.

Ava’s not the brightest crayon in the box, and uses what she has to great effect. Whomever they do cast for this role wouldn’t have to quote Shakespeare, and based on the way Rodriguez works would have to stare in awe of things that weren’t there.


In fact, since Rodriguez uses Miller’s visual style for storyboarding, she wouldn’t need to imagine anything. She could just look at the story and go from there.

The main obstacle this role has is nudity. Jessica Alba was able to get away with not exposing herself as Nancy Callahan – a very popular stripper by the way - but Ava’s character is built on her body…which is seen…a lot. The actress that plays her would have to go the same route as Carla Gugino and Jaime King, which admittedly would draw a lot of people to theaters.

So we’ll see. This is a great story, and she is a great character, and I can’t wait to see it on the screen.
