WTF? Friday...6/24/2016

Mornin' Joe. Hey! Guess what's happening this weekend:
Yep. 15 years and going strong.
What's that? What's PortConMaine?
Imagine if you will, San Diego Comic Con. You've heard of it. 4 days of geeky, nerdy, dorkiness invading an otherwise normal neighborhood. Cosplayers standing in line at Starbucks, famous (or not quite yet famous) artists showing their work, actors talking about their careers and upcoming projects, local businesses with cool deals, etc... All cool stuff.
Only here it's anime-themed, and in South Portland, Maine.
There's still the cosplayers, artists and (voice) actors, and local businesses are filled with anime-themed goodies. All within driving distance.
Sounds great. Right? One problem...
...it's anime themed. And I know jack about anime.
The biggest event of the year, close enough to where I live to not have to worry about hotels, and it's about something...else.
W...T...F...?
I appreciate art, and admire cosplayers. I like a good story and respect various forms of storytelling. But why the hell couldn't there be a comic-based event of this size in this place?
 There's one in Boston,
there's one in Rhode Island,
there's even one in Bangor.
The closest comic themed event all year is a single-day convention at a single building.
Damn straight.

I'll still go and admire the creativity, but I'd prefer comics is all I'm saying.
