WTF? Friday...6/24/2016

Mornin' Joe. Hey! Guess what's happening this weekend:
Yep. 15 years and going strong.
What's that? What's PortConMaine?
Imagine if you will, San Diego Comic Con. You've heard of it. 4 days of geeky, nerdy, dorkiness invading an otherwise normal neighborhood. Cosplayers standing in line at Starbucks, famous (or not quite yet famous) artists showing their work, actors talking about their careers and upcoming projects, local businesses with cool deals, etc... All cool stuff.
Only here it's anime-themed, and in South Portland, Maine.
There's still the cosplayers, artists and (voice) actors, and local businesses are filled with anime-themed goodies. All within driving distance.
Sounds great. Right? One problem...
...it's anime themed. And I know jack about anime.
The biggest event of the year, close enough to where I live to not have to worry about hotels, and it's about something...else.
W...T...F...?
I appreciate art, and admire cosplayers. I like a good story and respect various forms of storytelling. But why the hell couldn't there be a comic-based event of this size in this place?
 There's one in Boston,
there's one in Rhode Island,
there's even one in Bangor.
The closest comic themed event all year is a single-day convention at a single building.
Damn straight.

I'll still go and admire the creativity, but I'd prefer comics is all I'm saying.

Just a reminder...

They're having a cosplay parade/fashion show at The Maine Mall in South Portland this morning at 10 AM.

Get out there if you can!

Hey Kids...Anime!

Just a reminder that PortConMaine starts this afternoon and runs through Sunday at the DoubleTree Hilton in South Portland.

There'll be a Costume Parade through the Maine Mall at 9:30 Saturday morning as well.

I'm not big on Anime, and reading Manga makes my head hurt, but I'll always support fans who love their stuff and it's another excuse to get me to the mall for some movie, music, comic shopping.

So if you can, swing by for a day.

Maybe I'll learn a thing or two about Shinegami...

I'm having a crisis...

It's been really difficult lately to think about things to blog.

I'm not sure if it's because of the lack of sleep...
...or the never-ending anticipation for the "next big thing"...

......or just the regular Summer Blues.

There's a convention coming up, I may have mentioned it before called Portcon.
It's this month, and focuses heavy on Anime and other Japanese-related stuff.

I'm not a big fan of Manga and Anime and the like, but even if I was I can only enjoy one of the four days it runs.

It's hard for a dork like me to revel in my dorkiness when my days and nights are full and my only outlets are this blog and Marvel: Avengers Alliance.

This sucks.

Time for a pick-me-up...
...there we go.

Speaking of Conventions...

PortConMaine - a celebration of all things Anime - is happening in South Portland this June 20 - 23.

I never attended as-of-yet, but the con's been happening since 2002. It's held at the same place the Coast City Comic Con was last year and is again this year...right across the street from the Maine Mall.

That's awesome, because non-con people get to see cosplayers shop the local stores and eat at the food court.

I really want to go this year, just for a day, and actually see what they've got going on.

I've mentioned before that Mrs. Adorkification is the real fan, and Adorkette isn't too far behind, so hopefully I can drag them along.

As for me, I'm a HUGE fan of people celebrating the source(s) of their fandomania, even if I'm not a fan myself.

C4...The Sequel...Has a Date!

I'm so excited! They're doing it again, only over three days this time on Nov 9 - 11.

Between this, the End of Days PortConMaine June 21-24, and the slew of comicbook-themed movies coming out this year...along with my finally getting a Blu-ray player...this is going to be an awesome year...

...just in time for 12/21/12.

At least I'll have a smile on my face...
