How'd Fant4stic do? (Monday Movie Roundup...8/10/2015)

Part of me's afraid to find out Pepe.
Fant4stic made a total of $60.3 million worldwide over the weekend.
 While that's not chump change,
let's take a closer look.
First of all, the split between the Domestic and Foreign markets wasn't as big a gap as I was expecting. It made $26.2 million in the States (about 43.4%), and $34.1 million (the remaining 56.6%) everywhere else. I honestly thought it would be more 30% U.S. and 70% Foreign - meaning more Americans saw this film over the weekend than I hoped thought.
Then there's the budget.
As far as Box Office Mojo and IMDb are concerned...there wasn't one.
Neither site has anything listed for production costs.
I blame Fox, since they obviously don't want anyone to know how much money was wasted spent.
Comparing apples to apples,
Fantastic Four made over $56 million in the States opening weekend, significantly more than its 2015 counterpart. As for the Foreign market, FF (2005) opened overseas a week earlier that it did here, so by opening weekend in the U.S., it has a foreign total of $36 million...making its worldwide total $92 million by that point. FF (2015) didn't have that extra week of screenings, which definitely hurt its chances of making a profit so soon.
Now let's compare apples to the other fruit in the basket.
Using worldwide numbers (and ignoring Marvel Studios films), Fant4stic isn't sitting at the bottom. At $60.3 million, it's already made more than Punisher: War Zone, Howard the Duck, The Punisher, and Elektra.
I know...
The next film to beat is Blade: Trinity, which made $128.9 million (more than twice Fant4stic's box office right now).
See that Fox? That's the ghost. You should give up on it. Right now.

Meanwhile...
Ant-Man is at $326.3 million worldwide, and yeah - it's still over $40 million behind Captain America: The First Avenger, but it's made more than X-Men, is only $4.3 million away from FF (2005), is just $27.3 million away from X-Men: First Class...
...and is now the second top grossing film in Michael Douglas' career (right behind Basic Instinct at $352.9 million).
Have a good week all!

Thank you Marvel Studios, thank you...

I honestly had no idea what to talk about this morning, until I saw this...
...wait...the hell..?
(sigh)
I get that Marvel's got a knack for promotion. And yeah, this idea works. I just think that this should have been released months ago...
...like a week, or two, after the second A: AoU trailer.
The idea being that if this teaser came out then, it could have been followed by the "big" version now, with the actual trailer airing during the first episode of Agent Carter.
Yeah...no. Instead, we get this. Now.
Dumbasses.
I get that Agent Carter is the latest and greatest,
and Avengers: Age of Ultron is the second coming.
Guardians did extremely well - in part - because Marvel Studios fully supported it.
Ant-Man...however...has become the bastard stepchild of the MMU.
For no...good...reason...
Do I think Ant-Man will be a hit?
Yes I do.
In fact, I think Ant-Man will make be make more than The Incredible Hulk ($263.4 million worldwide).
...despite the lack of support.

Agent Carter in Ant Man?

I'm gonna need another cup before it sinks in...
...might appear in
...
I'm not against this. But there's also rumor Zola and Pierce will be in it too.
I'm gonna need a bigger cup.

I'll take an Ant-Man, and...WHADDYA MEAN NO WASP?

Evangeline Lilly will be playing a Hope Van Dyne, not Janet Van Dyne?
And Hope is the daughter of Michael Douglas' Hank Pym?
And there's this Yellowjacket guy who's a villain?
...um...
What the Hell?
Why couldn't they have had Hank Pym create the particles in the '70's or whenever (with Van Dyne funding) and put the stuff on ice only to have tech-savvy Scott Lang (who was a fan of Pym's and knew about the particles) steal them (from a S.H.I.E.L.D. safe house no less) to rescue his kidnapped daughter? After finding out what happened, and learning how Lang used the particles in ways Pym never imagined, Pym tells Lang to "keep the suit".
MAN that would have been a cool movie!
What the Hell Marvel...
What. The. Hell.

Have you seen this man..?

He's Peyton Reed, new director of...
...who brought us...
...
No, I kid. I'm sure Marvel and Feige know what they're doing.
Well, they think they know what they're doing?
We hope they know what they're doing?
Okay,
but it's their a$$es if they're wrong!

Okay Marvel Studios/Kevin Feige...WTF?

First you had a guy who gave you this...
...and you said "Yeah...that could work".
But then you went ahead and did this:
which features

and then you "broke ties amicably" with said director of this
and now your next choice for director has "too many things going on" to sign up.
So...are we going to get the Ant-Man project we were promised?
We better...
...or things are gonna get ugly!
