TUESDAY Movie Roundup...8/30/2016

...oh GET OVER YOURSELF MISTER CLOCK KING SIR...
(sigh) Anyways, how are ya Pepe?
Let's see how they did:
They kept the #2 spot over the weekend, with another $12.2 million in the bank from the States. That puts the domestic total at over $284 million. Outside the U.S., it's made $353.7 million (thanks in no small part to the United Kingdom ($36.1), Brazil ($28.3 million...and I wonder if the Olympics had anything to do with that...hmmmm...) Mexico ($25.5), Australia ($23 million) and Russia - CIS (with a cool $22.6)). Bulgaria ponied up $613,388, Slovenia donated $221,219 and even Iceland got into it (do they actually have theaters there? Apparently, they do.) for $452,031. All this adds up to more than $637.7 million worldwide.
Ya damn right! But lets put some perspective on this.
Yes - Suicide Squad is still in third place worldwide among all the DCEU films ...but only by less than $31 million.
Now let's look at the calendar:
Man of Steel was in theaters for 98 days when it finally reached just over $668 million. Suicide Squad has been out for only 25. That's almost a quarter the number of days. In other words, while I don't honestly think Suicide Squad will be in theaters that long, it would certainly make more than Man of Steel if it did.
Now let's compare apples to pears.
X-Men: Apocalypse made $544.6 million worldwide in 63 days.
You heard me John.
Suicide Squad has made more worldwide in 25 days than X-M: A made...in it's entire run!!!
Do you need to take a knee Mark? I know I do.
In fact, the only two X-Men franchise films Suicide Squad hasn't beat (yet, anyways) are X-Men: Days of Future Past...
...and this guy.
Holy Hannah!
Now let's compare apples to apple pie.
Suicide Squad (remember them..? They're who we're talking about here) has made $637.7 million worldwide so far.
According to Box Office Mojo (which is where I'm getting all this data from), Suicide Squad has made more than...
  • The Incredible Hulk (to no one's surprise)
  • Captain America: The First Avenger
  • Thor
  • Ant-Man
  • Iron Man
  • and Iron Man 2
It's also just $7 million away from beating Thor: The Dark World...and this is a film nobody even likes?
W...T...F...?
I'm gonna go have dinner now Pepe...'cause that there popcorn's lookin' mighty tasty. Have a good week!

WTF? Friday...8/26/2016

Hey Joe! Look!
I'm on time today!
But my a$$ is draggin'...
 Work's been ridiculous,
and Summer still sucks.
However...
...I found P-Diddy on YouTube.
A great channel with lots of vids from conventions going back to at least 2014. He usually dresses up as Deadpool and dances with other cosplayers. Really fun stuff.
I also started watching Stranger Things.
I say started because I couldn't get past Episode 3. It's great seeing Matthew Modine and Winona Ryder again, but the pacing was terrible and all the winks to eighties media made my eyes twitch.
Then I found Billy on the Street.
It's on Hulu, and it's pretty funny. Billy Eichner did this from 2011 to 2015, and he ran around the streets of New York asking strangers questions like "It's Zachary Quinto...do you care?" and "It's Debra Messing...you gays!" (with Quinto and Messing running along side him). Then there's "For a Dollar", where he walked up to people and asked them things like "Who's better...Gwen Stefani or Pink?" And if he agreed with their answer, he gave them a dollar. I'd love to do something like that at comic conventions. Walking around with a microphone and camera person asking strangers (both cosplayers and non) things like: "For a dollar...should the next Green Lantern movie feature Guy Gardner?" or "Who's better...Liv Tyler in The Incredible Hulk or Natalie Portman in Thor?" I would watch the hell out of that.
Have a good weekend!

TUESDAY Movie Roundup...8/23/2016

Morning Pepe...
 ...I know...I know...
Suicide Squad made another $20.8 million over the weekend, bringing its domestic gross to $262.4 million. When you add the $313 million it's made everywhere else, you get $575.4 million worldwide. This puts it less than $93 million behind the DCEU's #2 Man of Steel. Now,let's talk numbers...

Suicide Squad is now Will Smith's 6th top grossing film, right behind I Am Legend...which makes sense somehow.

It's made over $150 million more than The Wolf of Wall Street, so it's Margot Robbie's #1 film.

As for Ben Affleck, Suicide Squad is now his second top grossing film, right behind...wait for it...BvS.
Have a good week!

WTF? SATURDAY...8/20/2016

 Hey Joe...
...yeah, I know...
I was looking up topics to talk about this morning, and I came across something on ComicVine that caught my eye: Marvel Comics Cosplayer Variant Covers.
Which is cool. You can read the article here.
But as I looked it over, I slowly realized just how our of touch I am with the current comic landscape. I mean...Miles is still around? Gwenpool? Dazzler's an Avenger now? Since when did Patsy Walker get her own comic? And who the hell is Silk?
Then I moved on to news about Spider-Man: Homecoming latest casting decision. Zendaya whaaa?
Clearly, I'm out of touch...
...but hopefully, not out of time.
Part of me just wants to let the kids enjoy the now and move on. But it's hard to see stuff like this without getting curious. Is it better to try and keep up with the Jonses? So that when I finally get to my one convention of the year this October and I see twelve gender-swapped SpiderGwenpools, I'll know what I'm looking at? Or should I keep my head down as I wander to the tables looking at trades of stories I spent three years trying to collect back in the nineties?
 I'm stressed.
I'm tired.
 Confused.
And frustrated.

One thing that makes me happy is that I can still tell the difference between these two. I get that the lines are blurred, but they're still two separate things to me.
This...I've given up on.
Have a good weekend!

Monday Movie Roundup...8/15/2016

Evening Pepe. Let's see how the film everyone's talking about did this past weekend...
 NO...
Star Trek Beyond has made only $211.3 million worldwide after 24 days. Nobody wants to see that film anymore.

I'm talking about Suicide Squad.
It made $43.5 million in the states over the weekend, bringing it's Domestic Total to $222.6 million. Worldwide, it made over $466 million...in just 10 days.
So where does that put it within the DCEU? Well...
...it's still in third place.
$202 million behind Man of Steel and a whopping $406.7 million behind Batman v Superman
I know...
It's Will Smith's 6th biggest worldwide money-maker and Ben Affleck's third, but it made the top of everyone else's list.
You said it Hugh. Good for them.
Have a good week Pepe!
