Well, it finally happened -
TFA has broken $2 billion worldwide.
But at $2,008.4 billion, TFA is still third behind Titanic (at $2,186.8), and Avatar (at $2,788) overall,
...shut up...
despite the fact that here in the States TFA earned more: $906 million versus $760.5 for Avatar and $658.7 for Titanic.
It all comes down to the Foreign market. So far, the international grosses for TFA is $1.102 billion. Titanic had $1.528, and Avatar $2.027. So every person outside the U.S. needs to see TFA at least two more times. Each.
But there's one other factor in all this that makes things even more interesting...
...time.
Putting aside the fact that both Avatar and Titanic were re-released in theaters,
...cheater...
TFA is in considerable reach of beating both films after only being in theaters over 8 weekends.
You heard me...
Avatar was in theaters for 34 weekends. That's over half a year. Titanic? Even longer (41 weekends). Plus, in terms of weekend gross, TFA has yet to drop below of the top five.
So yeah, keep standing on the bow of that ship.
